Film 2245 - National Treasure

Intro: Ancora a casa e malaticcio, dopo le fatiche del precedente film targato 1944, decido di fare un salto avanti di 60 anni e rivedere un pellicola che, all'epoca, avevo visto al cinema col mio papà.

In sintesi: non lo rivedevo da anni e, per qualche motivo, 20 giorni fa ho risentito l'esigenza di vederlo.
Anzi, a ripensarci il motivo è connesso all'aver letto la notizia che la serie tv targata Disney+, "National Treasure: Edge of History", fosse appena stata cancellata. Siccome ero curioso di recuperare lo show - sia perché si ricollega alle avventure dei primi due film, sia perché Catherine Zeta-Jones era parte del progetto - ho pensato che una buona alternativa all'aver abbandonato l'idea di investire il mio tempo per vedere 10 episodi di una serie che non progredirà oltre, potesse essere tornare a rivedere l'originale con Nicolas Cage nei panni di Benjamin Franklin Gates. E, devo dire, l'idea ha sortito l'effetto sperato.
Facile facile, avventuroso, ricolmo di misteri da risolvere e indizi da mettere insieme, questo primo "National Treasure" funziona benissimo per quello che è, ovvero un prodotto per tutta la famiglia che non fa male a nessuno, regala un paio d'ore di divertimento e finisce presto nel dimenticatoio. Niente di fenomenale, ma mantiene le promesse.

Vale o non vale: Succedono talmente tante cose in questo film - di cui la maggior parte completamente assurde - che sembra di assistere a una pellicola della durata di 4 ore. Non lo dico con un'accezione negativa, in realtà il film scorre senza problemi, però è inevitabile di avere la sensazione alla fine della visione la sensazione che si sia assistito a un racconto molto più lungo di quello che non sembrerebbe semplicemente basandosi sul minutaggio del film.
Detto questo, per chi fosse alla ricerca di un intrattenimento facile e spensierato, un'avventura ai confini tra "Indiana Jones", "Il codice Da Vinci" e "The Librarian", in questo "National Treasure" troverà esattamente quello che sta cercando.

Intro: Malato e costretto a casa al mio secondo weekend bolognese sui tre che avevo a disposizione, ho deciso di recuperare un film che volevo vedere da tempo, ma non ero mai riuscito a recuperare.

In sintesi: sono da sempre un grandissimo fan di Hitchcock, ho visto e rivisto i suoi film e, in aggiunta, in questo caso ero particolarmente interessato a scoprire questa pellicola per la presenza di Tallulah Bankhead (che non avevo mai visto in alcun film).
Forse perché troppo abituato ai prodotti più misteriosi del grande regista, forse perché mi aspettavo qualcosa di più movimentato o elettrizzante, di fatto ho faticato veramente a finire questo "Lifeboat". Sicuramente un prodotto del suo tempo, contemporaneo per l'epoca nel portare sullo schermo una storia che includesse anche il nemico numero uno del momento (i nazisti), questo film ha sicuramente momenti interessanti e una certa dose di suspense, ma non riesce mai davvero ad andare oltre una certa impostazione da cinema classico che rende il risultato finale così differente da tutto ciò a cui siamo abituati. Non che la cosa di solito mi disturbi, ma in questa occasione speravo mi sarei trovato di fronte a qualcosa di più emozionante e meno "tradizionale", anche se sul finire del racconto le cose sicuramente si movimentano un po'. Per me non è stato abbastanza, forse anche perché ho faticato un po' a seguire i dialoghi a causa dell'audio non perfetto e un inglese più arcaico.

Vale o non vale: Lo spettatore moderno non abituato a un certo tipo di cinema più classico (forse c'è chi direbbe rétro) potrebbe faticare durante la visione del film considerato che la storia è completamente girata su una scialuppa di salvataggio. Per me è mancato un po' il mordente, quell'esuberanza a cui il regista ci ha abituato con i suoi titoli più famosi. Sono contento di aver visto "Lifeboat", Tallulah Bankhead fa tutto il film, ma onestamente il risultato finale è incapace di raggiungere i livelli di iconicità degli altri titoli di Hitchcock. In italiano il film si chiama "Prigionieri dell'oceano".

Film 2243 - Il ragazzo e l'airone

Intro: Dovevo recuoerarlo a Dublino, poi non ero riuscito. Sono riuscito ad andare a vederlo con un gruppo di amici e, in particolare, Andrea, forse il più sfegatato fan di pellicole d'animazione (sopratutto quelle della Disney).
E' stato strano tornare dopo tanto tempo al cinema in Italia e guardare un prodotto doppiato, anche se in questo caso non sarebbe potuto essere stato altrimenti.

In sintesi: non il mio film d'animazione preferito, l'ho trovato un po' "oscuro" in alcuni passaggi, comunque un'opera di evidente valore artistico e sicuramente un prodotto non convenzionale che ci ricorda che fare animazione può anche discostarsi dai canoni a cui ci ha abituato Hollywood. Poi, lo ammetto, sono contento se Miyazaki riuscirà a portarsi a casa un altro Oscar (vedremo con le nomination di domani) con la sua ultima opera.
Cast: Soma Santoki, Masaki Suda, Aimyon, Yoshino Kimura, Shōhei Hino, Ko Shibasaki, Takuya Kimura.
Box Office: $159.6 milioni
Vale o non vale: Sicuramente un film da vedere, anche se forse non il prodotto che tutti si aspettano. Stilisticamente stupendo.
Premi: Vincitore del Golden Globe per il Miglior film d'animazione (dove era anche candidato per la Miglior colonna sonora di Joe Hisaishi). Candidato al BAFTA sempre per il Miglior film d'animazione.

Film 2242 - The Bitch Who Stole Christmas

Intro: Era dal 2022 che volevo recuperare questo film, ma non ci ero riuscito in tempo per le feste. Così, quando il momento è passato, ho atteso il Natale 2023.

In sintesi: mamma mia, mamma mamma mia che brutto questo film.
Sono abituato al low budget delle produzioni da main challenge di "RuPaul's Drag Race", ma farci addirittura un intero film natalizio sugli stessi presupposti è stata un'idea atroce. Certo, nessuno guarda "The Bitch Who Stole Christmas" per il suo contributo all'industria cinematografica moderna, però ecco, almeno un minimo di impegno avrei provato quantomeno a mettercelo. Per intenderci, RuPaul recita tutte (TUTTE) le sue scene davanti a un green screen, non è in realtà in nessuna scena con altri attori del film. E se magari all'inizio non ci si fa troppo caso, col passare del tempo risulta talmente evidente (specialmente nella scena finale in cui tutte le queen festeggiano il successo ottenuto) che si passa il resto della pellicola a cercare di stanare le scene "finte" (non solo quelle con RuPaul, alla fine).
In ogni caso, da fan sfegatato di "Drag Race", è stato divertente ritrovare le varie queen in un contesto diverso rispetto a quello della competizione, unico vero aspetto positivo del guardare "The Bitch Who Stole Christmas". Tutto il resto è tremendo (senza contare che RuPaul è un pessimo attore...).

Film 2241 - The Holdovers

Intro: Consigliato dalla mia amica Gloria come il film della stagione passata che più l'aveva sorpresa, appena ho potuto l'ho recuperato.

In sintesi: decisamente non il film di natale che mi aspettavo - o, comunque, sicuramente non la tipica pellicola natalizia che inizia a circolare intorno ai mesi di novembre e dicembre - "The Holdovers" è un buon titolo dall'atmosfera rétro che tratta il tema natalizio in realtà solo marginalmente, per concentrarsi con interesse sullo studio di un gruppo di personaggi che rimane a vivere presso il campus di una scuola durante le due settimane di vacanze natalizie: un burbero professore di storia, uno dei suoi studenti e la cuoca.
Il film parte piano e inizialmente sembrerebbe volersi più che altro concentrare sulle bravate dello studente e un gruppo di altri ragazzi che parrebbe doversi trattenere per le feste. Quando, però, anche gli altri studenti se ne vanno, la storia prende una piega diversa, il tono si fa più intimo e la storia comincia ad andare più in profondità con l racconto delle varie vicende che riguardano i tre protagonisti. Ognuno di loro ha dei demoni da affrontare e, nella strana combinazione delle cose della vita, si aiuteranno e sosterranno a vicenda in una serie di occasioni che, fosse mancato il pretesto del rimanere bloccati presso il campus scolastico, non si sarebbero mai verificate.
Alexander Payne confeziona una pellicola delicatamente vintage che non rifugge questioni impegnative e umanamente complesse, senza mai però risultare pesante. Questo è l'aspetto che ho apprezzato di più di "The Holdovers". Poi non nego certo che non sia il mio titolo a tema natalizio preferito, ma rimane un film che ho visto volentieri e mi ha lasciato una bella sensazione addosso (specialmente dopo l'inaspettato finale).

Vale o non vale: Non fatevi trarre in inganno, non è il film di natale "classico": è una pellicola che racconta una storia che si svolge durante il periodo natalizio. Chiarito ciò, "The Holdovers" è un buon prodotto (che per certi versi mi ha ricordato "With Honors" ma con un tono più adulto) che funziona grazie a una storia che si rivela solo pian piano e tre protagonisti sulla carta improbabili, ma sullo schermo affiatatissimi (anche se mi chiedo quanto "da Oscar" sia la performance di Da'Vine Joy Randolph che già danno come favorita come Miglior attrice non protagonista).
Premi: Vincitore di 2 Golden Globe per il Miglior attore protagonista, commedia o musical (Giamatti) e la Miglior attrice non protagonista (Randolph) e candidato per il Miglior film, commedia o musical.
