Intro: On Christmas day, after all the food I had for lunch, I decided to dedicate the rest of the day to doing nothing. So I napped for a while, then I decided to watch a movie. I ended up watching three. Here's the first one.

Thoughts: Nothing says Christmas like Harry Potter, so I went for it. Usually I would have went for my favourite "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", but this time aroun I decided to switch things up a bit a go for the one I like "the least" (I love them all, of course).
This is after I went to "The Making of Harry Potter" Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London last Summer and their temporary exibition focused around the making of this movie, which was extremely well done and sparkled a new found interest in this third Harry Potter chapter.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed re-watching "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", a great movie made by the amazing director Alfonso Cuarón. Very different from the previous first to chapters of the saga, this installment is darker in tones and themes, altough very safely family-friendly.
A great watch, always nice to go back to Hogwarts.

Worth a watch?: For me, Harry Potter (no matter which movie of the series) is always a great option. I try to avoid watching them constantly, but if I could I'd definitely re-watch them multiple times a year.

Procedo alla riscoperta della saga potteriana in inglese grazie a Netflix. Un piccolo peccato nostalgico qui in terra lontana.

Pensieri: Forse l'episodio della saga che ho bistrattato di più, eppure rivisto oggi il risultato finale è migliore di quanto in effetti ricordassi. La storia è come sempre molto intrigante e anche se buona parte della magia infantile qui è sparita - come lo sono stati certi aspetti rappresentati nelle storie precedenti, per lo più legati a luoghi e spazi - la nuova anima "nera" di Harry ha comunque il suo fascino.
Bandite le divise e i toni fiabeschi, Hogwards è stata tramutata in un luogo magico ma oscuro dove agli studenti non mancheranno le occasioni per cacciarsi in nuovi guai. Del resto tra dissennatori e assassini in circolazione, gli spunti sono alla portata di tutti.

Effetti speciali magnifici, risultato finale godibile e di qualità.

Pensieri: L'ho sempre considerato in maniera minore rispetto agli altri episodi su Potter, sia perché meno 'conforme' a tutta la saga, sia perché di fatto capitolo di rottura rispetto alla strada intrapresa dai due capitoli precedenti. Con "Il prigioniero di Azkaban" si varcano i confini del dark per la prima avventura meno favolosa e più reale per i tre maghi teen di Hogwarts. Col senno di poi, lo ammetto, apprezzo.
Il quest'anno premio Oscar Cuarón mette mano perfino alla topografia del mondo magico e rifà letteralmente il look a tutto e tutti: castello, casa di Hagrid, Platano Picchiatore, via le toghe e tutti gli studenti in look casual. Fa strano, ma contribuisce a costruire una nuova immagine meno infantile e, soprattutto, aiuta a preparare fan e normali spettatori ai prossimi toni cupi di tutta la vicenda. Che, come si diceva, già qui cominciano a palesarsi, grazie alla spiegazione di chi sia Sirius Black e perché stesse ad Azkaban e, ancora di più, grazie alla comparsa dei terrificanti dissennatori. Anche la presenza di un lupo mannaro fa il suo effetto, a dirla tutta.
Carino, la storia molto ben architettata ed Emma Watson comincia a farla da padrone per capacità espressive e presenza scenica; peggio la recitazione di Radcliffe che, soprattutto nei momenti intensi, non è particolarmente efficace. Tutto sommato, comunque, il risultato è ottimo e la produzione è riuscita nella non facile impresa di rendere in maniera più matura questa parte centrale nello snodo della trama potteriana, che da qui in poi prenderà davvero sul serio la questione di Voldemort e compagnia bella, Peter Minus in primis!

Consigli: Episodio più 'sperimentale', il tocco di Cuarón è più che tangibile e da il suo meglio nella primissima parte a casa dei Dursley. Le bellissime trovate narrative di J.K. Rowling rendono questo terzo racconto tra i più interessanti di tutta la saga e il film, per quanto distante dalla realizzazione e pre-Azkaban e post-Azkaban, rende giustizia alla creatività dell'autrice. E anche se a livello di incassi questo capitolo 3 è quello che ha incassato di meno al botteghino su tutti, vale davvero la pena di vederlo, fosse anche solo per la geniale trovata del Giratempo o per godersi la magnifica realizzazione dell'ippogrifo Fierobecco.

Ancora Potter, ancora polmonite.

Pensieri: Di tutta la saga è il film più atipico e meno nella classica concezione potteriana. Cambiano gli spazi, mancano le toghe, si fa a pugni e fanno il loro ingresso i Mangiamorte. Più cupo rispetto ai precedenti due, fa da apripista alla virata dark della saga che, da qui in poi, si concentrerà più concretamente sui demoni interiori dei suoi protagonisti e, ovviamente, del suo cattivo per eccellenza: Voldemort (qui non presente).
L'impronta è palesemente cambiata e l'introduzione di un regista come Cuarón destabilizza il fan-medio che, sicuramente, avrebbe apprezzato di più un Potter classico e meno 'personalizzato'. Gli incassi inferiori alla media lo dimostrano (è il Potter che ha incassato di meno).
La scena top è la cena a casa dei Dursley, prima che la zia venga gonfiata: Cuarón è un regista meno commerciale dell'impostato (e prevedibile) Columbus e la scena lo dimostra. Spassosissima!
