Pensieri: Un film che ho trovato magnetico e destabilizzante, una storia nella storia che non lascia scampo allo spettatore e abbina il racconto di due mondi opposti - uno reale, glaciale e senza sbavature, l'altro inventato, torrido e selvaggio - per farli procedere parallelamente in un crescendo di ansia e solitudine, paura e violenza. Per non farli mai incontrare.
La storia di Susan (Amy Adams) e dei suoi due matrimoni passa attraverso la lettura di un manoscritto, punto d'incontro tra due vicende al quadrato: una reale e che coinvolge il traballante matrimonio attuale, l'altra di finzione e che parla tra le righe del dolore causato dalla fine della prima unione. Al centro c'è naturalmente la donna che, durante l'appassionata lettura, finirà per rivalutare parte del suo comportamento nei confronti dell'ex marito (Jake Gyllenhaal), turbata dell'inaspettata violenza e ferocia della storia da lui creata e dedicata a lei.
Di questo "Nocturnal Animals" penso che l'aspetto che più mi è rimasto impresso sia la solitudine generale, il senso di vuoto attorno a Susan - una sensazione che l'ambientazione glamour, la rigida cura per l'estetica e la generale formalità che la circonda non fa altro che amplificare - e la desolante tristezza descritta nel romanzo da Edward. I mondi opposti non sono solo nell'evidenza del contrapporre fiction e reale, ma anche nell'opposizione dei due stessi protagonisti che, nonostante l'iniziale coinvolgimento emotivo, finiranno per allontanarsi (con il conseguente avverarsi della "profezia" della madre).
Al di là dei vari aspetti più o meno sottintesi relativamente ai protagonisti, rimane il fatto che la narrazione della sconvolgente storia del manoscritto sia comunque il vero catalizzatore dell'attenzione generale. Sia perché tratta di avvenimenti brutali come lo stupro e l'omicidio, oltre che la giustizia privata, sia perché le interpretazioni di Michael Shannon e Aaron Taylor-Johnson sono particolarmente efficaci e valgono davvero la visione. Se la Adams è costretta in una sorta di prigione di vetro dove le è concesso solamente il biasimo verso se stessa, ai due attori della storia "non reale" sono permesse non poche libertà che regalano a chi guarda due performance davvero d'effetto: da una parte la cattiveria gratuita e disarmante, dall'altra il niente da perdere di chi sa che ha esaurito il suo tempo. Il loro sarà uno scontro non facile da digerire.
Insomma, per quanto l'ambientazione asettica iniziale mi avesse spinto a credere che si trattasse di una di quelle pellicole tutta estetica e nient'altro, mi sono dovuto ricredere in fretta, trovandomi di fronte ad un deserto naturale ed emotivo che impone l'incontro con l'imprevedibile in un gioco perverso di violenza ed abuso non giustificabile e che mette a dura prova lo spettatore. L'emozione è forte e ci si sente esattamente come Susan: schiacciati da una pesantezza e dal senso di ingiustizia. Se è questo che Tom Ford intendeva evocare con "Animali notturni", il lavoro è compiuto egregiamente. Un film che non nasconde una certa rigidità e, nonostante questo, riesce a colpire per l'intensità che riesce a generare. Forte e, francamente, bello.
Ps. 3 candidature ai prossimi Golden Globes (regia, sceneggiatura e attore non protagonista per Taylor-Johnson) e Leone d'Argento a Venezia 2016.

Box Office: $22 milioni
Consigli: La trasposizione dell'opera di Austin Wright non è certamente un film per tutte le occasioni, ma sicuramente un secondo appuntamento cinematografico riuscito per Tom Ford. Il quale riesce a sconvolgere lo spettatore con un'escalation di disarmante violenza che stempera con la freddezza di un'ambientazione contemporanea particolarmente asettica. Molto glamour e oscuro, peculiare nei suoi titoli di coda adamitici e ricolmo di ottime performance del cast (altrettanto glam), "Animali notturni" è, per il momento, uno dei film del 2016 che mi è rimasto più impresso. Sicuramente da vedere.

Golden Globes 2017: nomination e vincitori

Le nomination per i Golden Globes 2017 sono state appena annunciate e già danno il polso della situazione "cerimonie & premi" che si prospetta per il prossimo anno. Sorta di ibrido sia dal punto di vista dei media interessati (cinema+televisione) sia da quello del tempismo (gli Oscar, per il cinema, sono a marzo, mentre gli Emmy, per la tv, sono a settembre, mentre el nomination ai Golden Globe sono addirittura a dicembre dell'anno precedente l'edizione in corso), i globi dorati sono i premi conferiti al cinema americano dalla stampa estera, talvolta dimostrando di non essere in grado di restare al passo coi tempi.
Le nomination, quest'anno presentate da Don Cheadle, Laura Dern e Anna Kendrick, vedono "La La Land" e "Moonlight" contendersi il maggior numero di premi, rispettivamente con 7 e 6 candidature; Meryl Streep riceverà il premio alla carriera (che festeggia insieme alla sua 30esima candidatura officiale per "Florence Foster Jenkins") e la cerimonia di premiazione che decreterà ufficialmente i vicnitori sarà, invece, presentata da Jimmy Fallon l'8 gennaio 2017.
