Intro: Back from a month-and-a-half long vacation in Brazil, I finally met my cousin Francesca in Bologna and, after celebrating Boxing Day with our families, we drove all the way to Igea marina where she lives. There, exahusted, we decided to watch a movie. A very quiet one...

Thoughts: I enjoy the "A Quiet Place" franchise, but I'm not a fan. I watched all the movies, yes, but I never felt the urge to re-watch them, for example. With that in mind, I decided it was time to give this new oting a go, since it was successful and, I remember, well liked by critics and viewers alike.
"A Quiet Place: Day One" is a well crafted, entertaining movie, similar enough to the previous two chapters of this sage, yet different enough to captivate its new audience. Which is obviously a smart move.
What was even smarter, though, was casting Lupita Nyong'o in the lead role: not only she's a great actress, but also a great horror actress as she proved already in Jordan Peele's "Us". Although her character isn't the easiest one to root for, Nyong'o's talent is undeniable and shines once again in this movie.
Other supporting performances by Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou are perfectly fine and serve the movie well, especially considering this is the closest it gets to a modern silent movie, so being able to actually act is essential.
An overall well made movie, especially considering it's a prequel, but also serves as a spin-off and it's the third outing of the series. I'm surprised it didn't get an Oscar nomination in the Best Sound category, but I guess it was hard to beat "Emila Pérez"...

Worth a watch?: Definitely a good horror movie, unique in its genre as there's barely any dialogue and the story is carried by the actors' performances (which are good). If you enjoyed the previous two movies, then this one can't be missed.

Film 823 - Free Birds - Tacchini in fuga

Sinceramente una pellicola di cui non ricordavo per nulla l'esistenza, eppure uscita a malapena un anno fa.

Pensieri: Simpatico cartoon dalla parte degli animali, "Free Birds" nello specifico prende a cuore le sventure culinarie dei tacchini nella ricorrenza del Thanksgiving americano che li vede grandi protagonisti del menù. Salvare la propria razza dal massacro a tavola comporterà un viaggio nel tempo - sì, avete letto bene - per risalire alle origini di questa tradizione. Si tornerà, quindi, a tre giorni prima che avvenga il primo Thankgsgiving in assoluto nel 1621.
Come si capisce già da questi pochi elementi la trama è piuttosto inusuale, soprattutto perché combina strani elementi insieme, ma a ben vedere recentemente abbiamo assistito alla storia di un cane super intelligente che adotta un bambino e assieme viaggiano nel tempo. A differenza di "Mr. Peabody e Sherman", però, "Tacchini in fuga" è più divertente. La saccenza costante del cane rende difficile simpatizzare per il protagonista che, invece, qui è abbastanza stupido e divertente, per cui si segue con pacata tranquillità le improbabili avventure temporali dei tacchini in cerca di riscatto.
Anche se la sensazione generale è sempre che ci sia tutto, eppure manchi qualcosa, la storia riesce comunque ad intrattenere lo spettatore, strappando qualche sorriso e riuscendo a giocarsi abbastanza benei 91 minuti di pellicola che gli competono. L'unica cosa che forse poteva essere un po' più moderata è il livello di idiozia dei personaggi, qui settati su valori molto alti che, se a volte funzionano, altre volte risultano un po' superflui (come per esempio la bambina narcolettica: la prima volta è divertente, alla terza quasi più). I doppiatori americani sono Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson e Amy Poehler.
Box Office: $110,387,072
Consigli: Storiella sciocchina ma piacevole con anche una certa dose di fantasia che non guasta. Un film per tutta la famiglia su una tradizione tutta americana che ha i tacchini come protagonisti. Il Presidente americano è solito graziarne uno all'anno; l'altro, però, se lo mangia.
