Film 2385 - Lilo & Stitch

Thoughts: One of the worst movies I've seen this year so far, possibly the worst. We'll see what happens in the upcoming months, in the meantime "Lilo & Stitch", Disney's latest live-action remake/cash grab, is bad. B-A-D.
Firstly I want to say that I'm a big fan of the original, one of my favourite Disney movies. I still cherish the memory of when I went to see it at the movies. So clearly being the OG "Lilo & Stitch" a film that I really like, I had high expectations. Or, to better put it: I had very low expectations, but in my head I was hoping they would have treated this story with more respect.
There's nothing magical about the remake, all the fantasy is gone and this is just the carbon copy of the animated movie from 2002. Considering that that film made $273.1 million at the box-office and seen this live-action made a billion dollars, I understand why this was made and where a product like this lies. What saddens me, though, is that Disney doesn't even try anymore. At least at the beginning they did.
So, apart from being the frame-by-frame copy of the original, there's really not much here to see. Obviously this "Lilo & Stitch" is aimed at a young audience, to (re)introduce the characters and make even more money from the merchandise. We all know the name of the game, whatever. It's just extremely disappointing that the legacy of a movie like the first "Lilo & Stitch", a product full of imagination and stunning visual elements, is reduced to this CGI'd copycat with no soul or anything to say.

Box Office: $1.034 billion
Worth a watch?: It's trash. The pace of the movie is insane, so fast you can barely sit on anything that is said or showed to you. No time to focus, process, think: we're fed this content, whether we want it or not, with the sole purpose of remembering how cute Stich is (so that kids by more merch). Even for a Disney+ original movie (which this was intended to be), this would be bad.

In sintesi: considerato quanto ci hanno speso per produrlo (125–150 milioni di dollari) e chissà quanto in marketing per promuoverlo, il risultato finale di questo "The Fall Guy" al botteghino è particolarmente deludente.
Il film di per sé non è male, ma non è nemmeno così innovativo o "interessante" come potrebbe sembrare dal trailer. Per carità, la storia è anche divertente e il duo Gosling - Blunt funziona anche bene, ma non è sufficiente a mio parere a giustificare tutto il rumore mediatico creato per spingere il film.
Insomma, per quanto "The Fall Guy" nel complesso funzioni, non aggiunge niente a quanto non si sia già visto nel passato in pellicole simili. E considerato quanto il pubblico si stia rivelando più selettivo ultimamente, non è decisamente sufficiente a convincere lo spettatore medio a recarsi al cinema. "Bullet Train" (il precedente film del regista David Leitch), che pure non aveva fatto sfacieli al box-office, almeno presentava una storia più particolare e unica nel modo di costruire il racconto. Qui la trama intricata e la durata di oltre 2 ore non aiutano.
Peccato, sulla carta pareva il titolo perfetto per cominciare la stagione cinematografica estiva.

Box Office: $174.6 milioni
Vale o non vale: Si lascia guardare tranquillamente e Ryan Gosling è, come sempre, un ottimo protagonista, ma il film di per sé non aggiunge niente di nuovo al genere action. Sequenze d'azione molto ben costruite, ma non mi aspettavo niente di diverso da Leitch che delle "botte da orbi" ci ha fatto il suo marchio di fabbrica.

Film 2140 - Hocus Pocus 2

Intro: Non che ci fosse davvero bisogno di un sequel, ma la Disney è sicuramente stata in grado di creare la giusta dose di attenzione rispetto a questo progetto che, appena uscito, non ho mancato id recuperare all'istante.

In sintesi: se il film è stato reso disponibile sulla piattaforma Disney+ il 30 settembre, io e Ciarán ce lo siamo visti esattamente un giorno dopo perché, diciamocelo, visto il magnifico trio, questo era decisamente il titolo "gay" della stagione. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker e Kathy Najimy tornano ad interpretare le sorelle Sanderson e, bisogna concederglielo, sono davvero in formissima (oltre che un trio davvero affiatato). Non fosse per loro, ovviamente, un prodotto come "Hocus Pocus 2" meriterebbe ben poca attenzione.
In effetti, va detto, il film non è davvero niente di che e anche se tenta di aggiornare il proprio racconto adattandolo all'audience contemporanea, il confronto con l'originale è decisamente inferiore. Godibile, per carità, ma "Hocus Pocus" non si batte.
Quindi, per quanto davvero non ci fosse bisogno di un secondo appuntamento a Salem, l'effetto nostalgia sicuramente la fa da padrone e ci riporta - a chi nel '93 aveva già la capacità di intendere e di volere - a quelle atmosfere da film Disney anni '90 che è davvero impossibile replicare o ricreare oggi. Il che non è necessariamente un male, anche se fa un po' effetto pensare che siano passati 29 anni dall'uscita del primo iconico capitolo. Il tempo vola, come le sorelle Sanderson sulle loro scope. A una prossima avventura?

Vale o non vale: I fan dell'originale apprezzeranno questo ritorno a Salem in grande stile, sopratutto grazie alle magnifiche Midler, Parker e Najimy che, anche in questa seconda occasione, riescono a rendere iconico il trio di streghe. Il film, diciamocelo pure, funziona solo grazie a loro. Il resto è contorno e ce ne frega il giusto. Ma è poi così che doveva essere, per cui non ci stupiamo di niente e ringraziamo Disney che ci ha concesso il bis.
Per chi non avesse apprezzato il primo capitolo - o chi fosse alla ricerca di un film di Halloween ben più spaventoso - decisamente meglio cercare altrove.
