Film 2379 - Rocky

Intro: An iconic movie... that I had never seen before! And because I'm such a big fan of the "Creed" movies, I finally decided to give this movie - the OG of the franchise - a go.

Thoughts: I've never been a big fan of the 60s and 70s, so I'm not necessarily a big fan of movies from that era. That said, I thought it was ridiculous that I had never seen "Rocky" before.
With this in mind, I have to say that a) I understand why this film is considered so iconinc and b) yeah, it isn't necessairily my vibe, still I enjoyed the watch enough. My biggest struggle was understanding the accent and the delivery of the lines, which left me quite puzzled at times.
Overall it's a good sport movie. A bit outdated when it comes to gender and handling of the female character, but you can't watch a movie from 50 years ago with the eyes of today. Anyway... ADRIAAAAAAAAN!
Ps. Fun fact: Sylvester Stallone became the third person to be nominated for both acting and writing in the same year at the Oscars, following Charles Chaplin for "The Great Dictator" (1940) and Orson Welles for "Citizen Kane" (1941).

Film 1485 - Clash of the Titans

Intro: Da fan sfegatato di Maggie Smith mi sono sempre chiesto cosa diavolo ci facesse nell’originale che ha ispirato l’omonimo film con Sam Worthington. Tra miti greci e mostri in stop-motion davvero non riuscivo a figurarmi il ruolo che l’attrice 2 volte premio Oscar avrebbe potuto rivestire. Ecco perché dovevo assolutamente recuperarlo.

In sintesi: “Clash of the Titans” è la pellicola tecnologicamente più retrò che abbia mai visto. L’artisticità dietro questo prodotto sta nella manualità di chi ha creato effetti speciali straordinari per l’epoca, riuscendo a dare vita a miti dell’antica Grecia raccontandone di protagonisti, duelli e mostruosità. Necessariamente, però, si tratta anche di un titolo assolutamente antiquato, vintage e non adatto a tutti. La necessità di adattare le scene alle esigenze degli effetti speciali – non proprio fluidamente inseriti – richiede al racconto un’interruzione narrativa continua, un rallentamento che spesso spegne l’azione. La meraviglia di vedere Medusa prendere vita si tramuta velocemente nell’impossibilità della tecnologia di stare al passo non solo col realismo, ma anche con la velocità che richiederebbe la scena. E’ uno scotto che paghiamo tutti noi spettatori moderni rispetto a un prodotto così temporalmente distante; .
mi ha incuriosito scoprire che gli americani del tempo abbiano scoperto la storia di Perseo tramite nientemeno che questa pellicola (lo dice Wikipedia). La Hollywood più commerciale ha avuto un inaspettato riscontro educativo, inesattezza più, inesattezza meno; .
alla fine Maggie Smith è la causa scatenante di tutto. Dopo Zeus - interpretato nientemeno che dal leggendario Laurence Olivier - è proprio lei la divinità con il ruolo più importante e rilevante. Diversamente, Ursula Andress (che non avevo mai visto recitare) ha un’unica battuta, ma un’infinità di sguardi penetranti. Dell’attore che interpreta Perseo non c’è molto da dire, se non che la recitazione non fosse tra le sue più evidente capacità.

Box Office: $41 milioni (solo USA)
Vale o non vale: solo per gli amanti del vintage, per i nostalgici di un certo tipo di cinema. Anche se non credo che il più recente remake sia effettivamente meglio di questo kitsch ma più onesto titolo di inizio anni ’80.
