Film 2151 - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Intro: Tornato dalla mia vacanzina all'estero, ho voluto recuperare questo film quanto prima, dato che se n'era fatto tanto parlare.

In sintesi: ammetto di non essere mai stato particolarmente fan della saga di "Black Panther" e da un certo punto di vista rimango ancora perplesso rispetto all'accoglienza ricevuta dal primo film, non troppo diverso da altri film di supereroi visti in precedenza, ma di fatto elogiato e festeggiato come una sorta di miracolo cinematografico.
Con questo non voglio togliere nulla ai risultati ottenuti dal primo film, che è stato certamente capace di sfatare stereotipi e preconcetti rispetto a numerose questioni, anche se per me le 7 nomination all'Oscar (tra cui Miglior film) risultano ancora oggi un po' esagerate.
Con questo secondo capitolo, le sfide da affrontare erano decisamente complesse. La morte di Chadwick Boseman, bissare un successo planetario di pubblico e critica ($1.382 miliardi di incasso), la crisi narrativa della Marvel, la genesi dello stesso personaggio per la seconda volta, decidere che nuova direzione prendere. Tutto questo sommato alle aspettative altissime rispetto a un franchise che, fin dal suo lancio, è riuscito a fare meglio di tantissimi altri. Insomma, c'era molto su cui lavorare.
Da questo punto di vista devo dire che "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" non mi ha deluso. Il fatto che il primo film non mi avesse particolarmente impressionato ha sicuramente inciso sulle mie personali aspettative e nonostante l'hype generale in cui è stata coinvolta la pellicola prima del suo arrivo in sala, devo dire che per me recuperare questo titolo fosse puramente una questione di intrattenimento. E in questo senso la storia non delude.
Per la prima parte della narrazione è Angela Bassett a farla da padrone e lo fa così bene che quasi spereresti sia lei a prendere in amno le redini di tutta l'operazione. Nel momento in cui il suo personaggio viene messo da parte, a mio avviso si rende forse il problema fondamentale di questo sequel: Letitia Wright ce la mette tutta, ma le manca carisma e vitalità.
E' vero che il personaggio di Black Panther di fatto si porta avanti da solo, ma è altrettanto vero che la persona dietro la maschera necessiti di un certo tipo di appeal. Non che la storia manchi di fornire al suo personaggio, Shuri, la caratterizzazione che necessita, ma a mio avviso rimane il problema che si sia elevato a protagonista un personaggio secondario di cui allo spettatore interessa francamente il giusto. E per una buona parte del film - probabilmente la maggior parte - si percepisce una mancanza di leadership nella storia.
Allo stesso tempo è vero che "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" è anche il racconto di una nazione alla ricerca di un leader, di una guida e un protettore, quindi in quest'ottica capisco che la sensazione di smarrimento non sia necessariamente non voluta. Rimane il fatto, però, che un film come questo abbia bisogno di un protagonista forte che, ad oggi, qui manca.
Per il resto, il film presenta le stesse dinamiche degli altri prodotti del franchise: c'è un nemico da affrontare - una minaccia alle porte che comincia e si conclude con il racconto presentato qui -, c'è la necessità di un eroe, c'è un percorso di formazione, c'è un protagonista che deve fare i conti coi propri demoni e le responsabilità che accettare il ruolo di supereroe comporta. La macchina Marvel è più che oliata da questo punto di vista.
In generale, comunque, "Wakanda Forever" funziona, visivamente è ben fatto, i costumi sono ancora una volta stupendi e Angela Bassett è una meravoglia da guardare. Detto ciò, non posso non segnalare che il nemico Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía) e il suo popolo ricordino i protagonisti di "Avatar", che l'esercito tutto al femminile somigli a quello appena visto in "The Woman King" e che due funerali nel giro di 2 ore e quaranta di film siano oggettivamente un po' tanti.
Una nota personale finale. (*Spoiler*) Nella scena dopo i titoli di coda, scopriamo che T'Challa ha avuto un figlio da Nakia e che, verosimilmente, questa narrazione ci porterà, un giorno, ad avere il suo personaggio quale nuovo Black Panther. In questo senso, mi pare che la trovata narrativa vada a minare tutto il lavoro fatto qui: fino ad ora abbiamo seguito la genesi del protagonista di questo franchise due volte per due film diversi. Sapendo che prima o poi ci toccherà seguirne una terza e che, di fatto, Shuri è solamente un rimpiazzo temporaneo, come spettatori non si può fare a meno di chiedersi a che pro investire sul suo personaggio nell'ottica del suo eventuale rimpiazzo.

Vale o non vale: In un certo senso, un evento cinematografico. I fan della saga, della Marvel, dei film sui supereroi apprezzeranno, anche se "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" presenta numerose sfide per lo spettatore: una nuova protagonista, una durata interminabile, un senso generale di fatica rispetto a questa quarta fase Marvel, che di fatto si conclude con questo film. Tutto sommato, comunque, un prodotto di buon intrattenimento.

SAG Awards 2021: nomination e vincitori

A esattamente 24 ore dalla pubblicazione delle nomination dei Golden Globes 2021, vengono rivelate anche le candidature per i SAG Awards di quest'anno, premi conferiti dal sindacato attori americano alle migliori performance attoriali dell'anno. 

Come sempre, c'è una buona dose di copia-incolla come regola generale in tutte le categorie, anche se vanno menzionate qui alcune eccezioni: la presenza (non prepotente) di "Bridgerton", la candidatura di Michaela Coel per "I May Destroy You" (serie completamente snobbata dai GG), le ottime 3 nomination di "Minari" (ai GG candidato nella categoria film straniero, pur essendo una produzione americana) e "Da 5 Bloods" (nessuna nomination ai GG) e l'assenza di "Emily in Paris" e quel nonsense di "Ratched".

La cerimonia di premiazione si terrà il 4 aprile prossimo.
