Film 2234 - Saltburn

Intro: Saltino in avanti per parlare di una delle pellicole del momento, nonché una grande sorpresa cinematografica che, a suo modo, ha mantenuto le aspettative.

In sintesi: (***SPOILER***) "Saltburn" è stato tutto tranne quello che mi aspettavo e, a suo modo, mi ha convinto. Non tanto perché la storia sia particolarmente originale o innovativa, ma perché Fennell riesce a creare un mondo che funziona secondo i propri parametri e, per quanto assurdo e poco plausibile - Oliver/Barry Keoghan uccide tutti ma nessuno sospetta di lui? - il risultato finale è coerente e di grande intrattenimento.
Come per il precedente "Promising Young Woman", anche in questo film la colonna sonora gioca un ruolo fondamentale, rispolverando iconici motivi pop dal sapore nostalgico (qui è "Murder on the Dancefloor" di Sophie-Ellis Bextor, nel precedente era "Stars Are Blind" di Paris Hilton), il tutto in combinazione con una forte coesione stilistica - che qui caso contrappone lusso e povertà, moderno e antico - e un'evidente predisposizione di Fennell per la scrittura dei dialoghi, che in "Saltburn" si manifesta nel più classico degli humor britannici (e con che meravigliosi risultati!).
Questa seconda pellicola di Fennell ha, però, un elemento estraneo al precedente: una componente sessuale estremamente marcata. E non è tanto per quella scena finale di nudo integrale, la tensione sessuale pervade tutto il film e il finale non rappresenta che l'happy ending di due ore di continua eccitazione visiva: la bromance tra Oliver e Felix/Jacob Elordi, la "storia" tra Oliver e Farleigh/Archie Madekwe, Elordi praticamente sempre mezzo nudo, Keoghan letteralmente e completamente nudo, una calda estate passata sempre a prendere il sole, il voyerismo per l'intimità altrui, il bagno condiviso da Oliver e Felix... E potrei andare ancora avanti. "Saltburn" stuzzica costantemente lo spettatore e lo fa inizialmente di soppiatto, per poi rivelare un'anima inizialmente curiosa, poi morbosa che conferisce al film un'inaspettata connotazione erotica9. Fennell, però, dosa con intelligenza questo aspetto della sua storia, così che ce ne si accorge durante la visione sì, ma la sessualità non finisce per farla da padrone in maniera sfrontata, anzi, rimane semplicemente un altro degli aspetti della storia. Nel mio caso questa è la componente che sicuramente mi è rimasta più impressa perché la più inaspettata.
In una sorta di mix improbabile - ma che funziona - tra "The Talented Mr. Ripley" e "Call Me by Your Name", la seconda uscita al cinema da scneggiatrice/regista/produttrice di Emerald Fennell è prodotto sicuramente meno di impatto e controverso del suo film d'esordio, ma non per questo a suo modo meno riuscito. "Saltburn" è un film che funziona, assurdo per certi elementi sopra alle righe, sconvolgente a tratti e con qualche momento di humor sublime, per un risultato finale che soprende. Non perfetto, ma sicuramente tra i titoli più interessanti della stagione.

Vale o non vale: In un oceano di contenuti tutti uguali, di blockbuster che fanno flop al botteghino e di franchise che vengono riesumati nella speranza di laudi guadagni, "Saltburn" è una ventata d'aria fresca per la mente e per gli occhi, un film sicuramente non per tutti, ma da vedere. Fennell non ci vincerà un altro Oscar, ma ci ricorda per quale motivo è una da tenere assolutamente d'occhio.
