Film 2429 - Marty Supreme

Intro: I had really high expectations for this one, considering the stellar reviews, crazy marketing campaign, Oscar buzz and yeah, its protagonist.

Film 2429
: "Marty Supreme" (2025), Josh Safdie
Watched: At the movies
Language: English
Watched with: Niamh
Thoughts: I didn’t realize this movie shares its director with “Uncut Gems,” one of the most stressful movies I’ve ever watched. And “Marty Supreme” isn’t a walk in the park either.
I can’t really say that I loved it, to be honest, but I liked it enough for a number of reasons. It’s not my kind of movie: it’s so loud and fast-paced, and at times so intense and stressful, that I couldn’t fully enjoy it. This experience wasn’t as extreme as the “Uncut Gems” one, but it still affected (or tainted) my overall perception of the movie. That said, I did appreciate Timothée Chalamet’s performance — which I think could win him his first Oscar — and I love that Fran Drescher is finally back to acting. Overall, though, the standout performance for me was Odessa A’zion’s: she’s extremely talented, and her time in this movie proves it. I also appreciated the set pieces; I think the overall vibe and atmosphere were well built and convincingly recreated. Some really interesting music choices are included as well and, although not historically accurate, they really work.
Overall, I didn’t like it as much as I would have loved to, but I don’t regret committing to this two-and-a-half-hour movie.
P.S. The conceiving scene at the beginning reminded me of the movie “Look Who’s Talking”.
Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Sandra Bernhard, Fred Hechinger, Fran Drescher.
Box Office: $79.5 million (so far)
Worth a watch?: If you’re a fan of Timothée, Josh Safdie’s filmmaking style, or the yearly award-season race in general, this movie is hard to miss. I was hoping for a more traditional biopic-style execution and less narrative craziness, but it’s as entertaining as it is stressful at times. It’s also a bit odd to see Timothée and Gwyneth Paltrow in sex scenes — but it is what it is.
Awards: Nominated for 3 Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Screenplay, it won Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Timothée Chalamet). 3 nominations at the upcoming 2026 Actor Awards: Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (Chalamet), Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Odessa A'zion).
Key word: Table tennis.

Film 2354 - A Complete Unknown

Intro: Getting ready for the Oscars means to watch as many nominated movies as possible. And this year we were very committed.

Film 2354
: "A Complete Unknown" (2024), James Mangold
Watched on: At the movies
Language: English
Watched with: Niamh, Debbi, Elias
Thoughts: Biopics can be a hit or a miss, but I have to admit I enjoyed this movie enough. I say enough not because "A Complete Unknown" isn't a good movie - au contraire - but mainly because I don't know Bob Dylan's music that much and. And considering this is both a biopic AND a musical, not knowing any of the songs didn't help.
Again, I don't know Dylan's story, so I can only judge what I saw here, which isn't that pretty at times: it seems like the famous singer was a bit of a prick here and there (I mean, we all are in our own different ways) and I wasn't expecting to witness this side of him. His relationship with the two main female lead here isn't great, there's a lot of cheating and putting himself (and his music) first in the name of greatness.
That said, I particularly enjoyed the actors' performances. Timothée Chalamet really is one of the greatest (see his SAG speach which brought him so much controversy) and Monica Barbaro is phenomenal playing Joan Baez. Extremely well deserved Oscar noms for these two. I admit I was rooting for Chalamet to win. Althought this isn't my favourite movie by any means, of the 5 nominated performances (I watched only 4 so far), his was the one that impressed me the most.
Overall I liked "A Complete Unknown", not necessarily a movie that fits what I'm usually looking for in a film, still I enjoyed the watch.
Ps. It's silly, I know, but once you notice Chalamet's nails you can't unsee them.
Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Scoot McNairy.
Box Office: $132 million
Worth a watch?: Bob Dylan's fans should really enjoy this movie. Not my favourite biopic or musical, but still a good film. Similar titles would be "Walk the Line" and Ray". For something a bit more fast-paced, "Dreamgirls", "8 Mile", "Elvis", "Better Man", "Rocketman" or "Judy".
Awards: Nominated for 8 Oscars for Best Picture, Director, Lead Actor (Chalamet), Supporting Actress (Barbaro), Supporting Actor (Norton), Adapted Screenplay, Sound, and Costume Design. 6 BAFTA nominations for Best Film, Actor in a Leading Role (Chalamet), Actor in a Supporting Role (Norton), Adapted Screenplay, Casting, and Costume Design. 3 Golden Globe noms in the Drama category for Best Picture, Best Actor (Chalamet), and Supporting Actor (Norton).
Key word: Folk.

Film 2266 & 2276 - Dune: Part Two

Film 2266 & 2276: "Dune: Part Two" (2024) di Denis Villeneuve
Visto: al cinema
Lingua: inglese
Film 2065 - Dune
Film 2266 & 2276 - Dune: Part Two
Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Souheila Yacoub, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Anya Taylor-Joy.

Film 2262 - Call Me by Your Name

Film 2262: "Call Me by Your Name" (2017) di Luca Guadagnino
Visto: dal computer di casa
Lingua: inglese
Compagnia: nessuno
Me by Your Name" risiede in tre particolari aspetti:
1. la collocazione spaziale, che mi ricorda casa;
it's not meant to be);
Film 1530 - Call Me by Your Name
Film 1686 - Call Me by Your Name
Film 2262 - Call Me by Your Name

Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, Esther Garrel, Victoire Du Bois.
Box Office: $43.1 milioni

Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Natasha Rothwell, Tom Davis, Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant.
Parola chiave: Mamma.

Film 2081 - Don't Look Up

Film 2081: "Don't Look Up" (2021) di Adam McKay
Visto: dal computer portatile
Lingua: inglese
Compagnia: Karen, Lucas
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Melanie Lynskey, Himesh Patel, Paul Guilfoyle, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi.
