Film 2284 - Challengers

Intro: Uno dei film che attendevo di più questa stagione.

In sintesi: non è la prima volta che mi capita di avere determinate aspettative su un film di Guadagnino che, una volta visto, rimangono parzialmente disattese. Di fatto, però, ammetto che rispetto a un tempo sia cambiato il mio modo di vedere le cose: non è il film che non ha soddisfatto le mie aspettative, sono io che non posso basare la mia opinione di una pellicola sulla base di quello che desidero vedere.
Una volta fatto pace con questa mia tendenza - e avendo avuto a disposizione almeno un mesetto per rifletterci - devo dire che "Challengers" mi è piaciuto e, più di tutto, mi è piaciuta Zendaya. Sempre più lanciata e desiderosa di mettersi alla prova, anche in questo nuovo progetto l'attrice si mette alla prova e consegna al pubblico un personaggio che non l'avevo ancora vista interpretare, una donna matura, con aspirazioni, famiglia, forte di carattere e dominante. Un'ottima prova d'attrice.
Relativamente alle mie aspettative disattese, dico solo che, alla vigilia della visione al cinema, avevo letto molti articoli che parlavano della sensualità di questo film, la sua aura gay, la scena del churro, ecc ecc. La realtà è che Guadagnino è più "pudico" di quanto non sembri esteriormente (era già successo con "Call Me By Your Name") e questo "Challengers" insieme a lui. Sì, qualche momento di tensione omoerotica c'è, ma non quanto mi aspettassi o volessi. Il che, come dicevo, non è necessariamente un male, semplicemente la storia ha un punto di vista differente ed è interessata a raccontare qualcosa di diverso: un triangolo amoroso, la competitività del mondo dello sport agonistico, la storia di 3 persone diverse attratte dallo stesso elemento comune (il tennis), la competitività "testosteronica" tra i due protagonisti. Insomma, ci sono tanti elementi a formare questo "Challengers" e solo collateralmente c'è un interesse ad approfondire la componente gay. Io tifafo per quella, volevo più di quella roba di lì. Ciò non toglie che ci sia un elemento di sensualità in generale che appartiene sia a Josh O'Connor e Mike Faist che a Zendaya. Aggiungo che, insieme, fanno un trio esplosivo.
Insomma, "Challengers" è sicuramente uno dei titoli più interessanti usciti in questo 2024 (curiosamente, due di questi vedono Zendaya come protagonista) e vale la pena di recuperarlo. Ottime prove d'attore, magnifica fotografia, colonna sonora pazzesca (di Trent Reznor e Atticus Ross), montaggio molto creativo che funziona per il film e le sue tematiche e un Guadagnino in gran forma. Match point.
