Grammy Awards 2016: nomination e vincitori

Annunciate nella giornata di ieri, le candidature ai 58esimi Grammy Awards non hanno regalato particolari emozioni, più che altro perché ci si poteva abbastanza aspettare quassi sarebbero stati i nomi principalmente presenti. Per vedere se le nomination si tramuteranno in premio vero e proprio bisognerà aspettare lunedì 15 febbraio, giorno di consegna dei grammofoni d'oro.
Per la parte di questa premiazione che ci interessa qui, ecco le nomination relative al mondo del cinema (e tv) che contemplano candidati eleggibili nel periodo che va dal 1 ottobre 2014 al 30 settembre 2015.

Oscars 2015: Who's going to win?

Film 877 - La teoria del tutto

Non vedevo davvero l'ora di vederlo!

Pensieri: Avevo gigantesche aspettative per questa pellicola. Pensavo mi sarei trovato di fronte alla rivelazione della stagione. E invece non è stato così.
Anche "The Theory of Everything" finisce per guastarsi nel suo risultato finale non tanto per un motivo relativo al prodotto in sé, ma per colpa di tutto quel turbinio mediatico che lo ha già incoronato come uno dei migliori titoli di quest'anno (o meglio, l'anno scorso) e lo ha visto e vedrà trionfare in tante di quelle premiazioni che gli Oscar saranno solo la cigliegina sulla torta. Non che il film abbia una reale chance di vincere in tutte le categorie, ma è probabile che il Miglior attore sarà proprio l'Eddie Redmayne qui protagonista. E' evidente, infatti, che la sua trasformazione in Stephen Hawking sia degna di plauso, avendo meticolosamente sviscerato gli step di una malattia degenerativa crudele e debilitante. Io questo glielo riconosco senza se e senza ma. Poi, idiealisticamente, mi spendo solo un attimo per ricordare che è però molto meno facile rappresentare un personaggio di invenzione, che non soffre di disturbi invalidanti percepibili a occhio nudo, che riprodurre qualcosa (o qualcuno) che esiste o è esistito. Lo dico solo perché mi pare che ultimamente si tenda a premiare quasi sempre l'interpretazione biografica (le due di "Dallas Buyers Club" dell'anno scorso, la vittoria dell'anno prima di Daniel Day-Lewis che fa Lincoln, Sean Penn che interpreta Harvey Milk, Forest Whitaker che rifà Idi Amin in "The Last King of Scotland" e l'anno prima Philip Seymour Hoffman che veste i panni Truman Capote, mentre l'anno ancora precedente aveva vinto Jamie Foxx rifacendo Ray Charles. Sono 6 esempi su un campione di 10 edizioni degli Oscar considerati. E ho preso ad esempio solo la categoria del Miglior attore protagonista!) a discapito di altre ottime interpretazioni sempre, però, seconde per il fatto che non sono relative a un "ritratto" di qualcun'altro. Fatta questa postilla, continuiamo.
"La teoria del tutto" è una buona pellicola, tecnicamente molto curata, con un protagonista forte sia a livello narrativo che interpretativo. Hawking è chiaramente un soggetto interessante da 'studiare, una persona di cui si segue con curiosità la storia di vita, i numerosi successi, l'assoluta genialità e un quotidiano fatto di difficoltà che altri non affrontano nemmeno in una vita intera. Se, però, andiamo oltre questo e oltre la perfetta metamorfosi di Redmayne nel famoso fisico, ho trovato il progetto molto meno ispirato ed ispirante. Le immagini promozionali mi parevano suggerire più una storia concentrata sull'amore della coppia che sulla malattia, ma non è esattamente così. La prepotenza di un male che non ha cura e ti colpisce giorno dopo giorno deve avere certamente uno spazio privilegiato nella trama, eppure un approfondimento più specifico sulla relazione con la moglie Jane/Felicity Jones e sulle loro dinamiche famigliari mi sarebbe piaciuto di più. Il colpo di scena finale (per me che la storia vera non la sapevo) con l'ingresso dell'infermiera Elaine mi ha spezzato il cuore, eppure è trattato molto freddamente e rapidamente, cosa che non mi sarei aspettato.
Forse le patinate immagini di locandine e trailer mi avevano mandato completamente fuori strada, facendomi indirizzare su un tipo di biografia strappalacrime che, invece, si è dimostrata essere molto più concretamente la narrazione pacata di una vita certamente unica. Meno poesia del previsto, quindi, meno romanticismo, amore senza tempo (cioè c'è, ma non come te lo aspetteresti e in questo, ripeto, il finale è davvero qualcosa che ti lascia di stucco) e tutte quelle manfrine rosa cui i blockbuster americani ci hanno abituato. Ci sta, probabilmente è giusto così, eppure io altro mi aspettavo e la cosa mi ha un po' condizionato.
Tutto sommato, comunque, è la storia solo apparentemente straordinaria di una coppia che, invece, è più normale di quanto ci si aspetterebbe. Dalla coraggiosa scelta di Jane di stare al fianco di Stephen, al momento di mettere in piedi un sistema comunicativo ex novo per il professore, questa storia mettere a dura prova lo spettatore sensibile a questo tipo pellicole, eppure l'approccio è meno sdolcinato o caricato di quanto non ci si aspetterebbe.
In conclusione "La teoria del tutto" è certo uno dei titoli da non perdere di questo lungo percorso fino agli Oscar, eppure manca quella sensazione di epicità o, a seconda del tipo di approccio, di raccoglimento che forse l'avrebbero reso memorabile, oltre che valido per una grande interpretazione del protagonista. Devo dire che i candidati a Miglior film di questo 2015 non mi hanno ancora sconvolto, per quello che ho visto. Ne devo recuperare ancora molti, nella speranza di rimanere conquistato pienamente da almeno qualcheduno.
Box Office: $91.3 milioni
Consigli: Mi fa sempre sorridere quando leggo che i medici avevano pronosticato la morte imminente di qualcuno e quest'ultimo, invece, sopravvive contro ogni speranza. Mi fa sorridere più che altro perché è la prova tangibile che nessuno può pronosticare nulla con certezza, il che è sempre rassicurante. Le persone, poi, sono in grado (anche) di cose straordinarie e, nel caso Stephen Hawking, sopravvivere a una malattia come l'atrofia muscolare progressiva non è nemmeno la più peculiare.
Quello che è apprezzabile del film di James Marsh è l'approccio alla vicenda che sembra sincero e depurato da un sensazioalismo che certo la figura di uno scienziato di fama mondiale avrebbe potuto ispirare. Chi cerca una biografia onesta su una figura umana complessa qui troverà non poche soddisfazioni; meno chi si aspetta livelli di romanticismo da zucchero a causa della storia di un amore che fa affrontare la malattia. In ogni caso è una buona pellicola con un protagonista particolarmente efficace (Eddie Redmayne) e può essere vista anche solo per farsi un'idea più dettagliata sul fisico, matematico, cosmologo e astrofisico britannico. Anche se, lo ammetto, questo film mi ha colpito molto meno di quanto avrei sperato.
Parola chiave: Equazione.

Oscars 2015: le nomination

Dopo l'annuncio delle candidature da parte di Cheryl Boone Isaacs, J. J. Abrams, Alfonso Cuarón e Chris Pine, francamente, per un attimo sono rimasto di sasso.
Troppo ben abituato alla generale scopiazzatura tra un evento di questo genere e l'altro, avevo dato per scontato che cinquine dei Golden Globes e relativi vincitori sarebbero stati più o meno identici anche agli Oscar. Errore, grande errore.
Se, da un lato, la cosa mi ha sinceramente scioccato, devo dire che dall'altro apprezzo la scelta più indipendente, ovvero il piglio più genuino che gli Oscar dimostrano quantomeno nelle cinquine, evitando scivoloni un po' imbarazzanti determinati da un eccesso di categorie (quest'anno, i più evidenti ai Golden Globes erano nella categoria Attrice protagonista Musical o Commedia, con le candidature di Quvenzhané Wallis per "Annie" e Helen Mirren per "Amore, cucina e curry").
Tutto sommato quindi, superata l'iniziale diffidenza, devo dire che in generale posso capire le scelte. Meno nella categoria Miglior canzone originale, ma da questo punto di vista gli Academy Awards sono sempre stati meno commerciali dei Golden Globes. Forse, però, a Lana Del Rey una chance potevano darla.
In generale, comunque, qualche previsione confermata c'è stata: "Birdman" si porta a casa 9 candidature, "Boyhood" 6, "The Imitation Game" 8, "Theory of Everything" e "Foxcatcher" 5, "The Grand Budapest Hotel" 9. Le vere soprese sono state le solo due candidature di "Selma" (film e canzone), le 4 di "Mr. Turner" (vincitore a Cannes per Timothy Spall Miglior attore), 5 per "Interstellar" (tutte tecniche); le vere sorprese, però, sono soprattutto le 6 di "American Sniper" (0 ai Golden Globes) e le 5 di "Whiplash" (1 nomination con vittoria ai Golden Globes) entrambi candidati anche a Miglior film), ma anche le 3 di "Unbroken". Nelle categorie attoriali va detto che c'è stato un po' di rimpasto, qualche grande sopresa e decisamente molti nomi totalmente nuovi. Per quanto riguarda le sorprese, quelle in negativo sono l'assenza di Amy Adams per "Big Eyes" (vincitrice del Golden Globe), David Oyelowo per "Selma" (ma il fattore razzismo era già stato ampiamente celebrato l'anno scorso con le vittorie di "12 anni schiavo"), Jennifer Aniston per "Cake" (data per certa) e soprattutto Jake Gyllenhaal per "Nightcrawler" che certamente meritava una candidatura. In positivo, si aggiudicano - veramente a sorpresa - una candidatura Bradley Cooper per "American Sniper" (alla sua terza nomination in 3 anni), Marion Cotillard per "Deux jours, une nuit" (a spese della Adams) e per "Wild" Laura Dern (che non si aggiudicava una nomination dal 1992 e soprattutto il cui padre ha avuto una nomination l'anno scorso per "Nebraska").
Per quanto riguarda i volti nuovi degli Academy Awards, gli attori che hanno ricevuto oggi la loro prima nomination sono 4 su 5 per il Miglior attore protagonista (Michael Keaton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne e Steve Carell), Felicity Jones e Rosamund Pike per la Miglior attrice protagonista e per quanto riguarda i non protagonisti J.K. Simmons tra gli uomini, Patricia Arquette ed Emma Stone tra le donne. Un po' ridondanti, francamente, la settima candidatura di Robert Duvall per "The Judge" e la **esima di Meryl Streep per "Into the Woods" (per la precisione Meryl è a quota 19 candidature - record di sempre - di cui l'ultima l'anno scorso e 3 premi vinti).
Piacevoli sorprese sono state certamente il meritato riconoscimento (finalmente!) a Wes Anderson alla regia e la doppia candidatura nella categoria Miglior colonna sonora per il bravissimo Alexandre Desplat, arrivato a 8 candidature e 0 vittorie (anche se neppure questo sembrerebbe essere l'anno buono se si guarda ai Golden Globes).

In fine, una particolare menzione per i redivivi o, in questo particolare caso, i redidivi, star dimenticate che hanno ribaltato la loro situazione di stella in ombra grazie a una grande stagione quest'anno culminata proprio con la nomination di oggi: la già citata Laura Dern (ultima nomination 1992), Michael Keaton (mai avuta una candidatura in 30 anni di carriera), Patricia Arquette (0 nomination in quasi 30 anni di carriera), Edward Norton (che non vede una nomination dal '99), Alejandro González Iñárritu (che a parte 2 candidature nel 2007 non si è visto riconoscere nient'altro) e soprattutto Julianne Moore che dopo un exploit di 4 nomination, di cui ben 2 nel 2003, è stata da lì in poi ignorata.
Insomma, l'Academy quest'anno è riuscita a ribadire la propria supremazia in fatto di premi cinematografici ribaltando certe sicurezze che parevano garantite da altri contesti e promettendo un'edizione certamente interessante. Chi porterà a casa più statuette, quale sarà il miglior film dell'anno, ce la farà Richard Linklater a trionfare alla regia (fatti fuori Fincher e Nolan dalla cinquina della regia...)?
Le risposte definitive domenica 22 febbraio quando Neil Patrick Harris presenterà l'ottantasettesima edizione degli Oscar! Nel frattempo, naturalmente, tutte le categorie e i candidati di quest'anno. And the Oscar goes to...

BAFTA 2015: nomination e vincitori

Oggi era anche il giorno dell'annuncio delle candidature ufficiali ai BAFTA 2015, ovvero quelli che sono considerati gli Oscar britannici.

Giunti alla loro 68esima edizione, questi premi sono solitamente vicini agli Academy Awards anche per le cinquine principali come Miglior film, regia e attori, anche se di fatto tendono sempre ad essere più filobritannici, nonostante anche qui lo strapotere delle produzioni USA sia evidente. Ne è segno evidente che i BAFTA conferiscano premiazioni a parte per categorie specifiche come Miglior film britannico o Miglior debutto di un regista, sceneggiatore o produttore britannico. Insomma, la lingua è più o meno la stessa, ma anche l'orgoglio patrio vuole la sua parte.
La cerimonia di premiazione si terrà l'8 febbraio al Royal Opera House di Londra presentata anche quest'anno da Stephen Fry, alla sua decima esperienza di conduttore dell'evento.

Critics' Choice Awards 2015: nomination e vincitori

Pensavamo tutti che con i Golden Globe e le nomination sfornate neanche 7 giorni fa fosse finita? Beh, ci sbagliavamo di grosso.
Più che la stagione dei premi sembra la gara a chi arriva primo a snocciolare le sue cinquine, comunque tant'è, non ci possiamo fare nulla: i Critics' Choice Awards 2015 sono tra noi con una valanga di nuove nomination per decretare i migliori tra i migliori dell'anno (2014, ma anche 2015 visto che delle pellicole devono ancora uscire. E non parlo dell'Italia).

Nell'attesa, come ribadito più volte, delle nomination agli Oscar, in arrivo tra un mese, ci crogioliamo in questa baraonda da decreto assoluto, in questa schizofrenica necessità di sancire il migliore dell'anno. Lo sappiamo tutti che poi solo gli Academy Awards avranno un peso a livello di immagine e vendite, ma hey!, un premio in più non può mica farci male.
I vincitori saranno annunciati venerdì 16 gennaio 2015.

Screen Actors Guild Awards 2015: nomination e vincitori

E così si ricomincia con le premiazioni.

La ruota gira ed ecco che i primi nuovi - e non - nomi di star e titoli che contano fanno capolino per quelle che sono le penultime nomination importanti dell'anno, ma che già coinvolgono la prossima stagione.
Annunciati oggi da Ansel Elgort e Eva Longoria, questi Screen Actors Guild Awards (i premi decretati dagli attori stessi e che, quindi, non comprendono categorie tecniche come regia e sceneggiatura) si terranno il 25 gennaio, subito dopo i Golden Globe che saranno invece l'11 (ai quali mancano però le nomination annunciate domani). Per gli Oscar, invece, bisognerà attendere ancora un po': candidature il 15 gennaio e cerimonia che si terrà, invece, il 22 febbraio 2015.
Più che da queste cinquine sarà dall'annuncio di domani che potranno cominciare a delinearsi i probabili futuri nuovi Oscar-papabili, ma hey, intanto godiamoci questo succoso antipasto!
E allora che la stagione dei premi 2015 abbia inizio...!
