Thoughts: I've expressed how much I like this film, how great I think it is, and what an amazing example it is of how a horror movie can become an iconic piece of pop culture, so I'll keep it short and sweet.
I think "Weapons" is the best movie that came out last year. It's a cinematic crazy ride, and Amy Madigan is a force of nature here. Her work as Aunt Gladys is untouchable, and I'm so glad she got her flowers. She deserved that Supporting Actress Oscar and, for once, the Academy made the right call. "Weapons" is very much an ensemble film, yet she's impossible to forget, as her impact goes far beyond her performance on screen.
I love this movie. It's inventive, well-written, smart, and has something to say. And this is, especially in the horror genre, an amazing feat to achieve.

Madigan is also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role at this year's Actor Awards.

Intro: I decided to wait for the Golden Globes nominations to be announced before writing this review because I was curios to see if this movie would actually get the nomination everyone was talking about.

Thoughts: This year, no other horror movie has been this successfull and a performance achieved this level of praise and iconic status since "The Substance" came out last year and Demi Moore was nominated for her first Oscar. Amy Madigan seems to be heading in the same direction (and disappointment?).
To be honest, I don't think she really has a shot at winning - especially considering what happened this year at the Academy Awards - but it's nice to finally see a great performance in the horror genre being recognized and brought front and center of the award season ahead. Madigan and her aunt Gladys are the glue of this film, not to mention the most entertaining part of it.
What I liked about "Weapons" is its dual nature: there's a mystery to be solved that feels very mch grounded into reality and there's the horror movie components that lurk in and elevate the story. Yes, one would have to be fun of the genre to better appreciate the scary moments, but this is still a pretty compelling story and entertaining piece of media.
The cast is on point, the screenplay well written thanks to a very intreaguing premise and, overall, Zach Cregger's latest cinematic effort is one of the best movies we've seen in this otherwise lucklaster 2025.

Film 1791 - Long Shot

Intro: Incuriosito dalle buone critiche e la coppia di protagonisti assortita in modo interessante, ho scelto di vedere questa commedia alla ricerca di qualcosa di piacevole e interessante.

In sintesi: diciamoci la verità, questo "Long Shot" non è proprio niente di che e, anzi, visto tutto l'hype creato attraverso una promozione del film che passa attraverso la citazione di tutte le critiche positive ottenute da questa pellicola, direi che il risultato finale è abbastanza deludente.
Come direbbe saggiamente Rupaul:

Insomma, onestamente mi aspettavo qualcosa di più brioso e originale e nonostante la lodevole scelta di rappresentare la protagonista femminile come quella più di successo della coppia - finalmente mettendo in discussione i canoni della rappresentazione femminile nell'industria cinematografica mainstream, rimae il fatto che "Long Shot" non sia all'altezza delle aspettative: un prodotto ok che si lascia guardare, ma davvero nulla di eccezionale. Terribile, poi, il foto ritocco fatto su Charlize Theron in tutti i vari poster promozionali e non del film, poco credibile e mal riuscito.

Pensieri: Ultimo titolo della mia collezione "Salvate il malato Bengi", la scelta è ricaduta su una classica commedia stupida, così per arrivare a fine serata senza pensieri.
"Unfinished Business" ha un cast pazzesco che spreca per una serie di banalità anche volgarotte, ma di certo al cosa non mi ha colto alla sprovvista. Mi aspettavo tutto quello che ho visto (perfino il lato B di Dave Franco), per cui niente ha potuto scalfire la mia ultima, tranquilla visione casalinga.
La trama è semplice: Dan, che si dimette dalla sua vecchia compagnia, ne comincia una propria insieme a due matti e, a fatica, nel giro di un anno riescono ad ottenere la loro grande occasione. Credendo di dover solo ottenere la fimra del contratto che consentirebbe loro di svoltare, scopriranno invece che il vecchio capo di Dan è pronto a mettergli i bastoni fra le ruote.
Come si capisce, la storia non ha nulla di originale e anche se le avventure folli che ci sono in mezzo hanno qualche momento divertente, il risultato finale non è così spassoso come sarebbe dovuto essere per giustificare tanta volgarità e banalità. Diciamo che salvo il terzetto improbabile (Vince Vaughn, Dave Franco, Tom Wilkinson) e poco altro. Insomma, niente di che.

Consigli: Boiatona che ha qualche momento divertente e che principalmente si posiziona nell'intrattenimento a cervello spento che mira ad essere successone commerciale grazie a divertimenti fino all'eccesso, politicamente scorretto, sesso e protagonisti improbabili insieme ma che in realtà funzionano. La formula - a livelo di incasso - non ha funzionato, ma non si può dire che sia un titolo peggiore di altri che, invece, sono stati clamorosi successi commerciali. Forse la stella di Vince Vaughn si è spenta, ma non è colpa sua: probabilmente non avrebbe mai dovuto accendersi.
