Thoughts: Critics were enthusiastic and the movie was doing well at the box-office over in America, so I really, really didn't want to miss this one. Not to mention that it represented another good outing for Pamela Anderson, on her way to her career resurgence (so happy for her!). So I rushed to the movies to see this new "The Naked Gun" movie. And yeah, it was good.
I'll be honest, it wasn't the masterpiece that most of the reviews were making it out to be, but still quite the fun ride and I appreciated that the humor here is absolutely in tune with that of the previous movies. Also, although it's a strange casting decision, Liam Neeson definitely does a good job as the main character (and son Frank Drebin, played by Leslie Nielsen in the original films). Pamela Anderson is definitely a great surprise, funny and perfectly fitted for this universe.
Overall a good, funny movie and, at least to me, a respectful tribute to the original work.

Thoughts: My favourite one of the 'Scary Movie' franchise, I think this one is so good it always makes me laugh (funny enough, both in Italian and English, which is quite the feat!).
Ahead of the 6th movie coming out, it made sense to rewatch this one: so many iconic moments, movie references and actors. Chef's kiss.

Film 2378 - The Last Showgirl

Intro: There was so much excitement around this movie - even a possible Oscar nomination for Lead Actress - that we couldn't miss it. I mean, we missed it at the movies, but caught it in streaming eventually.

Thoughts: Is it Pamela Anderson's best performance on screen? Absolutely. Is "The Last Showgirl" one of the best movies recently made? No, but it's a great comeback vehicle for Anderson and, even just for that, I think is great.
I honestly don't think Pamela Anderson could have found a better movie to reedem herself as an actrees and come back to the scene than "The Last Showgirl": a story about appearence, showbiz, loneliness, and a career in a business that has no mercy for women. All of thise combined together are hard to separate from Anderson's real life story at times, especially knowing what we know about it (too much, indeed). But specifically because we know about her, her past, and what she used to stand for and now stands for instead that "The Last Showgirl" works so well: not only Pamela Anderson gives the best performance of her career - before this movie it didn't necessarily mean much considering her filmografy, to be honest tho - but carries to movie perfectly because it's so easy to identify her with the main character, but she does it in a way that isn't in your face, it works because how understated is her performance at times (which is the very opposite of how her public persona used to be). It works well and she is the movie.
Other characters are there of course - most notably Jamie Lee Curtis is there, another actress that is having quite the resurgence lately - but in a way are less impacful or, to better phrase it, serves Shelly (Anderson) more than anything else.
All in all, a good enough movie. I admit that I was expecting something a bit more 'iconic' (along the line of "The Substance"), but it's a wonderful feeling to see Pamela Anderson leading a movie that is getting rave reviews (and "The Naked Gun" now!).

Worth a watch?: It reminded me "Hustlers" and "Anora" at times, but it's definitely a way quieter movie. Not for everybody, but for those who enjoy arthouse film, definitely a good film to watch.

Intro: Saltiamo avanti di 200 film e torniamo al contemporaneo. Non esattamente con questo film, ma in generale con la filmografia che compone il mio 2021. Per un po' ho deciso di fare così, salti in avanti e indietro nel passato per riuscire a portare avanti le recensioni che avevo lasciato indietro, pur rimanendo più o meno in pari con i film del momento.

Vale o non vale: Se si conoscono i titoli a cui questo "Scary Movie 3" si ispira non mancano sicuramente le risate. Divertente e irriverente, per certi versi geniale, questo terzo capitolo della saga rimane il meglio riuscito.

Serata all'insegna del divertimento assicurato!

Pensieri: Lo considero sempre il migliore di tutta la saga e anche questa volta, visto in inglese, devo dire che riconfermo il mio pensiero. Maledettamente perfetto nell’incastrare tutti i riferimenti alle pellicole prese in giro (da “The Ring” a “The Matrix”, da “Signs” a “8 Miles” e ancora tanti altri) e con un cast ricchissimo di attori e guest star, oltre che di battute davvero efficaci, il terzo capitolo del franchise riesce meglio dei precedenti ad incarnare lo spirito di un prodotto parodistico come questo.
Anna Faris è ancora un volta il filo conduttore di tutta la storia, dimostrando nuovamente di possedere una dote comica innegabile, oltre che la capacità di mettersi in gioco (visto che si tratta pur sempre di un titolo non certo di gran classe). Va detto, comunque, che a differenza della versione italiana che non perde occasione di fare battute a sfondo sessuale, quella originale è molto meno piena di questo tipo di riferimenti.
In ogni caso “Scary Movie 3” è sempre una certezza: si ride e ci si diverte alla grande.

Consigli: Trovo che “Scary Movie 2” sia un film piuttosto brutto e di conseguenza evitabile. A parte il personaggio principale di Cindy, poi, non ci sono particolari collegamenti tra un episodio e l’altro, quindi si può anche pensare di vedere questo terzo in solitaria, come di vederlo seguendo la giusta sequenza temporale. Saltando il numero 2.

Vacanzina in Lussemburgo, come ogni volta torno volentieri al cinema a gustarmi qualche pellicola in lingua originale!

Pensieri: Sciocco, sboccato, esibizionista e spesso volgare. Eppure questo revival di uno dei telefilm più famosi di sempre riesce a catturare qualche sorriso e, limitandosi ad accontentarsi di quello che passa in convento, si può perfino apprezzare l'ora e mezzo di intrattenimento facile facile.
L'impressione che ho avuto è che Dwayne Johnson sia sempre di più la spalla ideale (anche se qui è protagonista), l'uomo giusto per le pellicole di disimpegno, capace di adattarsi a qualsiasi compagno di grande schermo e riuscendo sempre di più a portare a casa un risultato soddisfacente. Qui, inoltre, è affiancato da un ipertrofico Zac Efron che, certamente, è capace di districarsi bene in un tipo di prodotto del genere (e sceneggiature facili facili) con una certa professionalità. Anche se, devo ammetterlo, in questa occasione l'ho trovato particolarmente inespressivo e presente nel film giusto perché atleticamente perfetto per il personaggio (un ex sportivo due volte medaglia d'oro). Priyanka Chopra è, invece, una cattiva accettabile che fa una fine ingrata, per quanto sorprendentemente inattesa. Di sicuro per lei atterrare sul pianeta blockbuster significa ritagliarsi uno spazio importante nella Hollywood che conta, peccato che "Baywatch" di fatto non abbia funzionato (69 milioni di dollari per produrlo e un incasso di a malapena 100milioni superiore, senza contare le critiche estremamente negative).
Per quanto riguarda la sceneggiatura, in generale si sceglie di concentrarsi su moltissimi espedienti sessuali cercando di ri-assestare l'approccio decisamente più serio - anche se spesso derisibile, per carità - della serie tv. Sinceramente non penso che fosse necessario, più che altro perché questo va un po' ad intaccare il ricordo e il senso dell'originale. Forse il tentativo era quello di incuriosire i giovani con le restrizioni per età e linguaggio tanto severe in America (il famoso fascino del proibito). Si poteva puntare su altro, anche se il risultato finale non è così male come i critici lo hanno definito.

Consigli: Tenendo presente che si tratta di una boiata, il risultato finale è anche godibile. Scemo, volgare, chiassoso, sesso dipendente, il "Baywatch" cinematografico rispolvera le vecchie glorie della serie tv Mitch Buchannon, Matt Brody, Stephanie Holden e CJ Parker e le rilancia al giorno d'oggi, tra patti di fratellanza ai limiti della consanguineità, prove fisiche da implosioni muscolari e un intreccio narrativo tanto semplice da non intaccare i toni sciocchini dell'operazione. Non mancano, ovviamente, due camei ad hoc.

Pensieri: Tra i quattro film della serie (pare che nel 2013 ci sarà il quinto) questo è sicuramente il mio preferito. Sia perchè mi fa più ridere degli altri - sì, mi fa ancora ridere! - sia perchè la presa in giro nei confronti delle altre pellicole 'serie' è davvero ben riuscita ed incastrata in una trama, per una volta, che segue un filo logico.
Quindi basta gag fine a sé stesse, solo per criticare questo o quell'altro film, perchè qui abbiamo una cassetta che uccide ("The Ring"), gli alieni che sbarcano sulla Terra ("Signs"), un ragazzo col sogno di rappare ("8 Mile") e una profezia che può salvarci dalla prossima invasione ("Matrix"), tutto condito con una certa critica agli stereotipi classici da cinema americano.
Non è certo un capolavoro, per carità, però da quando lo vidi per la prima volta (quasi) 10 anni fa ricordo che al cinema risi come un matto perchè non mi aspettavo assolutamente una serie di richiami così ben architettati e divertenti a discapito di titoli così famosi. Per una volta, finalmente, pareva ci fosse anche una trama. Stupida, per carità, ma bisogna sempre tenere presente che cosa si sta guardando (e cosa ha preceduto questa pellicola... Il primo capitolo è divertente, ma il secondo definirlo osceno è fargli la grazia).
Grandissimo cast riunito per l'occasione, tra l'altro. Tra protagonisti (Anna Faris, Charlie Sheen, Regina Hall, Simon Rex, Queen Latifah, Leslie Nielsen) e camei come se piovessero (Pamela Anderson, Jenny McCarthy, Jeremy Piven, Simon Cowell, Denise Richards, Ja Rule, Macy Gray e Redman), durante la visione è meglio stare attenti anche a quale viso noto si è appena palesato in scena.
Insomma, alcuni buoni motivi per vederlo ci sono. Se il cast non vi dice niente di particolare (ma Anna Faris, oltre ad essere protagonista di tutta la serie, è anche un'attrice piuttosto affermata. L'abbiamo vista in film come "I segreti di Brokeback Mountain", "La mia super ex-ragazza", "La coniglietta di casa", "Lost in Translation" e "(S)ex list"), allora confitate in una serie di gag che, per chi ama il cinema, sapranno parlare da sole!
Ps. Buon box office per essere il terzo capitolo della serie: 45-48 milioni di dollari di spesa e un incasso mondiale di $220,673,217.

Consigli: Anche se il secondo capitolo della saga si può decisamente tralasciare, rivedere tutti e quattro gli episodi in ordine da un certo senso di completezza. Se, invece, non siete troppo amanti del genere commedia sbroccata, ma volete comunque tentare, sappiate a cosa state andando in contro (il trailer vi darà una mano a farvi un'idea)...
