Film 2486 - Office Romance

Intro: Back in June, we spent a weekend in Dingle, Co. Kerry, to celebrate Niamh's birthday and, while there, we watched a couple of movies. This is the first one.

Thoughts: I quite like romcoms, so this should be right up my alley, but I wasn't really sure I wanted to watch this one. Mainly for a couple of reasons: both Jennifer Lopez's and Netflix's movies aren't usually that good. So, combine the two elements together and you get why I wasn't feeling too excited about "Office Romance". The saving grace of the project is Brett Goldstein - who also wrote the script - one of my favourite actors from the "Ted Lasso" family. Because of him playing the lead, I was kinda intrigued.
I'll be honest, "Office Romance" is quite the odd movie. Lopez and Goldstein have nice chemistry and the romance is believable enough, I'll give them that. Overall, I guess the story is fine, but it definitely takes some strange turns: the birth scene is unnecessarily graphic, the British kink room is weirder than romantic, and the sister (Jodie Whittaker) plot twist is surprisingly serious for a movie like this. This last element especially felt the oddest to me because it doesn't really fit the vibe, even more so when the story tries to make the situation somehow funny by making her some sort of comic relief. It's not; she's in prison - if I recall correctly, she murdered someone? - and if you choose to include this dark element in your romcom, you should treat it in a more appropriate way. Or at least that's how I felt while watching the movie.
Overall, I appreciate the effort to deliver a film that is less your usual romantic comedy and a bit more of an oddball that catches you by surprise at times, but I'm not sure it's done in a completely successful way here. Also, in the more demanding emotional scenes - like the last one at the press conference - JLo still cannot deliver.

Worth a watch?: Of all the romcoms you can watch, I wouldn't have this one at the top of my list. It's fine, the production value is obvious, and Brett Goldstein surprisingly works for a project like this, but overall the story is emotionally inconsistent and feels stranger than it should at times.

Film 2482 - Miss Congeniality

Intro: I didn't get the chance to write anything new over the past few days because I was hospitalised a week ago. There's (still) an issue with my eyes - I constantly see double, they call it diplopia apparently - and the doctors cannot figure out what's causing it. It's getting much better - I can even write here! - but it still tires me out to look at a screen for too long, and it takes a lot of energy to focus on typing and reading, so I'm taking it easy for now.

Thoughts: Originally, we watched this movie to get ready for the Babes Awards - an award show my friends and I organise to give ourselves crazy titles like 'Drama Queen', 'Sporty Babe' or 'Best Couple' - because Niamh and I wanted to perform the famous opening number from the Miss United States beauty pageant featured here. Like, let's be real for a moment: "One in a Million" is a banger!
So, our plan was to study the choreography they do here and replicate it as the opening number for the 2026 Babes Awards. Reality is, there was just too much going on, our energy levels were low, and we ended up scrapping the idea in favour of something simpler: a picture and video collection of our friend group from previous years, set to the UK Traitors theme song. And that one, too, is another banger.
To be fair though, after watching "Hokum", going for something brighter and lighter in tone was definitely the right call. Not to mention that "Miss Congeniality" is just a damn good movie. It's a feel-good story, it's well told and imaginative, and it's genuinely funny. I wish they still made this kind of movie, where the premise is simple but effective, the story is fully fleshed out, and the cast is filled with true A-listers from both the present and the past. I mean, it's mind-blowing to think that "Miss Congeniality" brought together Sandra Bullock, Michael Caine, Candice Bergen, and William Shatner in the same film.
The sequel isn't nearly as good, but this one's iconic.

Worth a watch?: I love romcoms from this era; there's something about them that I really miss and cherish. Back when this came out, "Miss Congeniality" was considered a chick flick, a lesser movie compared to other, more "worthy" films. The reality is that, 26 years later, it's not only a comfort watch, but it's also still genuinely good and incredibly entertaining. If you haven't watched it yet, it's time to give it a go!

Film 2449 - People We Meet on Vacation

Intro: We're still in Fuerteventura and the girls have joined us on the island. Petra & Rebecca are on one side of the main village, while Debbi's accommodation is right next to ours. So on Monday, since Niamh had her college course, I went over to her's to watch a movie and have dinner together.

Thoughts: I didn't know what to expect with this one. I didn't know the story, nor the book this is taken from, so I went in with low expectations and the hope that I would at least have a decent time. And look, to be fair, I did have a decent time at the beginning.
"People We Meet on Vacation" is your classic Netflix romcom that you watch and forget about the next day. There's nothing remarkable about it: the aesthetic is perfectly clean and glamorous, with no hint of real life anywhere. Everyone seems to be either rich or somehow gravitating towards a luxurious lifestyle, considering the way the characters are dressed and the locations they’re placed in. And of course, most of the romantic moments happen in what could easily be a postcard backdrop. But no one was really aiming for realism here.
Once you make peace with that and focus on the plot... oh jeez. If I had to summarize what happens in this movie, I'm not sure I'd be able to remember anything beyond the classic 'will they won't they' cliché. They're just friends, but secretly they're made for each other and obviously already in love, except the timing never seems to work in their favour. Eventually, towards the end, they find a way to finally **(I don't think it's a) SPOILER** make it happen for themselves. They are in love, all is good in the world, and we can move on because really, who in their right mind didn’t expect the plot to go exactly like this? Nobody.

Worth a watch?: Predictable and not memorable enough for any other qualities to make it stand out, "People We Meet on Vacation" is a good enough option for a night of brainless escapism, but not much else. Also, sorry to say, but I wasn’t impressed by Emily Bader's performance in the lead.

Thoughts: One of the worst movies I watched last year—cheesy and clichéd—it focuses solely on capitalizing on the dramatic events of the story. Although I’ve never seen it, it reminded me a lot of "Emily in Paris" in terms of aesthetics and overall blandness.
The chemistry between Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest is simply not there, and I’m sorry to say she doesn’t deliver a strong performance here. Considering she’s the lead, that’s not a good look.

Thoughts: I'll be honest, I watched the movie just because I thought it was a gay or borderline-gay coming of age romcom. I couldn't have been more wrong.
Although it's a very avarage (aka watchable) movie, nothing about this screams original. "How to Date Billy Walsh" tries really hard to be a lot of things, many of which we've seen before, resulting in a mishmash that doesn't really work, yet is not necessarily bad. It's giving "Sex Education", "Heartbreak High", "Never Have I Ever" and "Mean Girls" (and more, even "Carrie"!) vibes, yet never as good or iconic.
I think the biggest issue here is that this film is trying too hard to channel someone else's 'personality', trying to be edgy and funny, but also smart and quirky, and it doesn't really work because there's no original point of view. Again, it's not a terrible movie, but a very forgettable one it is indeed.

Thoughts: I really wanted to rewacth it because I remembered I enjoyed it, although I didn't necessarily remember the story in full.
This second watch was fun, I kinda forgot that Awkwafina had her major moment thanks to this movie that launched her into mainstream stardom (though now her popularity has definitely faded a bit due to overexposure), and in general "Crazy Rich Asians" is a very well don romcom.
I think Henry Golding is particularly charming here, more a scene stealer than Constance Wu, who has more female competition to deal with (Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, obviously Awkwafina, but mostly a pre-Oscar Michelle Yeoh) and didn't necessarily pop for me as the lead character.
Overall, 9a very entertaining movie and especially beautiful to look at (I'm actually surprised it didn't get nominated for costumes and set design at the Oscars).

Film 2360 - Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

Intro: Niamh and I have a list of film we want to watch. She doesn't necessarily remembers them all, but I do. This is one of the movies on the list that we didn't manage to watch at the movies whe it came out.

Thoughts: I wasn't sure about a fourth movie, the "Bridget Jones"' franchise seemed to be done with the third chapter (that I particularly enjoyed after the so-so second one) and rehasing the whole gang made me a bit nervous.
Reality is, "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" is a great movie, a great sequel (and fourth installment), and potentially a very well done goddbye to these characters. It's charming and endearing as a Bridget Jones' movie should be, but surprisingly deep and heartfelt at times (especially at the beginning), to the point that I shared some tears here and there. The passing of a loved one is handled in a very mature and meaningful way, never rushed and always respectful: I was really impressed.
Renée Zellweger is always a pleasure to watch, more so when she's playing Bridget. Hugh Grant - in his resurgent era - is charming and funny and although the story never says goodbye to his character's old habits, this new version of Daniel is very successfull in depicting a upgrated side of him. Additionally, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall are perfect new addition to the story.
Although this movie doesn't reinvent the wheel, it feels damn good to be back in the company of Bridget, cozy and charming, funny and wholehearted. "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" is the sequel I didn't know I needed.

Film 2336 - The Holiday

Intro: I think I've only watched this once at the movies and that was it. Recently, tho, a lot of people were talking about it, especially since the Christmas season was approaching. So I decided to give another go...

Thoughts: I remember I didn't particularly like this movie the first time I watched it and I cannot say I changed my mind this time around really. Not that it is a bad movie by any means, it's just a bit meh, although enjoyable. 

I just say that, of all the Christmas movies out there, this isn't my favourite. Also, Nancy Meyers (the director) said she never conceived "The Holiday" as a Christmas movie in the first place.

That said, I'll admit that some bits work and I particularly enjoyed Cameron Diaz's performance. Maybe she isn't the greatest actress of all time, but she surely works for these type of movies, romcoms especially. And she has good chemistry with the co-star Jude Law. They're obviously a gorgeous pair and that doesn't hurt either.

What didn't work for me, tho, is Kate Winslet's character's storyline. Or, to better put it, hers and Jack Black's. I really didn't vibe with these two and not because the actors do a bad job, but rather because it's such an odd pairing it's distracting. 

Additionally, their 'relationship' grows at a very slow pace all to speed up at the very end of the movie very suddenly. We know from the start where the story is trying to go, yet it doesn't really commit until the end.
Furthermore, Iris' (Winslet) story reminded me quite a lot of Bridget Jones'.
Anyway, again, I don't think "The Holiday" is a terrible movie, it's just not my favourite.

Film 2335 - Hot Frosty

Thoughts: No need to go too deep into this movie, as I believe anyone can imagine that "Hot Frosty" isn't anything groundbreaking or even good. Plot-wise it makes no sense and, believe me, it is not becuase he's a snowman that turns into a human thanks to a magical scarf: there are so many inconsistencies in this screenplay, too many to list anyway. I'll just say this: he turns human and can understand the concept of love and death no problem with no need for explaination, but he struggles to grasp the meaning of the most basic words.
With that said, that doesn't take away from the fact that "Hot Frosty" is such a silly watch it's entertaining. As it makes lesser and lesser sense, it gets funnier and more upsurd and, if you're into these plotless silly Christams movies, than you're up for a tread because there's a lot to laught about!
Pretty iconic moment when Lacey Chabert sees a scene from "Mean Girls" and says that Lindsay Lohan's character reminds her of a girl from her school.
Also, worth mentioning that Dustin Milligan looks weirdly sick in this movie, ripped as ever before, yet somehow disturbingly skinny. This man here doesn't look like the same person from "Schitt's Creek" and it's strange.

Worth a watch?: Netflix has been trying so hard to replace Hallmark's Christmas movies with its own for the past few years it's insane. And I think it's kinda working. To be added to the endless list of movies only good comes Christmas time, "Hot Frosty" isn't very good nor particularly compelling, yet there's something about it that makes it a great movie pick to watch with friends (and to laught about). And there's nothing wrong with it.

Film 2330 - Fly Me to the Moon

Intro: Ultimo film americano. Di ritorno da Boston, tra un pisolino e un pasto (questa volta decente) decido di recuperare una pellicola che avevo perso al cinema e mi era rimasta impressa per il suo gigantesco flop al botteghino.

In sintesi: non c'è veramente nulla di particolarmente negativo da riportare riguardo a questo film, una commedia romantica anzi piuttosto piacevole.
Scarlett Johansson e Channing Tatum funzionano bene insieme e si confermano due ottimi comprimari e tutta l'operazione "Fly Me to the Moon" ha un particolare "vibe" che mi ha molto ricordato un altro titolo simile (anche se molto più riuscito), "Hidden Figures", che apprezzo sempre. Per cui devo ammettere che la visione di questa pellicola mi ha soddisfatto.
Quello che non mi torna, invece, è come sia possibile che un prodotto come questo sia riuscito a costare nientemeno che 100 milioni di dollari. Premesso che, per loro stessa ammissione, quelli di Apple non sono interessati al risultati del box-office, quanto più alla possibilità di convincere nuovi possibili clienti a sottoscrivere il loro servizio di streaming, è comunque impossibile non rimanere basiti rispetto al risultato catastrofico in termini di incassi di questo film. Un film che, diciamocelo pure, per nessun motivo giustifica un budget tanto elevato (che, tra l'altro, non include nemmeno i costi per il marketing e la promozione).
Detto questo, ribadisco che "Fly Me to the Moon" è un prodotto carino e si lascia guardare senza problemi.

Intro: Weekend casalingo (tanto pioveva, sai che novità) all'insegna di non uno, non due, ma bensì tre film. Il primo, un cult anni '80 che avevo visto tantissimo tempo fa.

In sintesi: con la notizia che Kim Cattrall parrebbe tornare per la terza stagiove di "And Just Like That" dopo anni di rifiuti a tornare a vestire i panni della celebre Samantha Jones, non potevo sottrarmi dal rivedere questa pellicola, scelta da Michael per l'occasione. Sembrava detino.
"Mannequin" è un film spassoso e facile facile con una Cattrall in formissima (anche fisica, diciamocelo pure) e un Andrew McCarthy con cui fa faville sul grande schermo. In mezzo anche la storia del coprotagonista Hollywood (Meshach Taylor), gay & proud (ed estremamente cool a mio parare), che aiuta Jonathan (McCarthy) sul lavoro e si rivela amico fidato. In particolare, ho trovato estremamente positiva la maniera in cui l'amicizia tra questi due personaggi viene rappresentata dalla storia, mettendo nero su bianco che l'amicizia tra un uomo etero e uno gay è tanto possibile quanto normale (per quanto Hollywood sia un personaggio estremamente stereotipizzato, ma sia pur sempre negli anni '80).
Tutto sommato una commedia divertente, evidente prodotto dei suoi tempi, ma ancora efficace in termini di spassoso divertimento e il solito elemento nostalgia, che non gusta mai.

Vale o non vale: Continuo a trovare piacevolmente surreale l'incipit del film ambientato nell'antico Egitto: un manichino che prende vita a seguito di divinità dell'antico Egitto che concedono a una ragazza dell'epoca di sfuggire a un matrimonio combinato per riprendere vita nel futuro (leggi fine anni '80) e, che ve lo dico a fare, innamorarsi del protagonista della storia.
Non si tratta certo di un capolavoro, ma sicuramente un prodotto piacevole e ancora estremamente godibile. Kim Cattrall è magnetica.

Intro: Non avevo mai sentito parlare di questo film. L'altro giorno stavo guardando un video su YouTube dove si cita la performance di Susan Sarandon in questa pellicola e mi sono incuriosito: sembrava la scelta perfetta per un venerdì sera casalingo.

In sintesi: sarò onesto, non ho particolarmente gradito questo film. Non che non sia un prodotto di qualità, quello no, semplicemente non è troppo il mio genere.
Meno romcom di quanto avrei gradito e più concentrato sull'elemento sportivo della trama con molti, MOLTI riferimenti sessuali (che non mi aspettavo), "Bull Durham" è evidentemente un prodotto del suo tempo che funziona e non funziona. Ho molto gradito la performance di Susan Sarandon, anche se ho trovato il suo personaggio molto caotico e difficile da seguire (come la sua professione: che lavoro faccia la sua Annie Savoy ancora lo devo capire). Kevin Costner fa Kevin Costner, ma devo dire che funziona e ora comprendo meglio il suo status di sex symbol. Il personaggio di Tim Robbins è un casino e anche se ha senso in riferimento al suo arco narrativo, l'ho trovato comunque fastidioso.
Insomma, non ero troppo interessato al triangolo amoroso che la storia propone. Poi, lo ribadisco, c'è davvero molto sport e molta terminologia tecnica che, ovviamente, non ho compreso. Non il film che mi aspettavo (il che, come sempre, non è necessariamente un male, semplicemente avrei voluto vedere altro).

In sintesi: non sono partito assolutamente prevenuto e, anzi, mi aspettavo avrei gradito la visione. invece ho trovato questo "Who's That Girl" indigesto.
Due aspetti in particolare non ho gradito: il personaggio interpretato da Madonna e tutto il susseguirsi di imprevisti raccontato dalla storia. Ma andiamo per ordine.
Madonna. Premesso che non ho mai pensato fosse un'attrice così tremenda come l'hanno descritta negli anni (forse in "The Next Best Thing", ma non in generale diciamo), devo dire che qui il suo personaggio - o come l'ha interpretato - mi ha dato davvero sui nervi. Mi rendo conto che rendere Nikki Finn seccante ed irritante (soprattutto all'inizio della storia) fosse intenzionale, specialmente in contrasto con la seconda parte della trama in cui i due protagonisti ovviamente si innamorano, però ho davvero faticato a tollerarla. Anche solo la voce mi dava sui nervi.
In combinazione con questo primo aspetto, il fatto che la sceneggiatura sia concentrata su questa serie di (chiamiamoli) equivoci tutti causati da Nikki e che quest'ultima sia per la maggior parte del tempo insopportabile, di fatto per me ha rovinato tutto il film.
Ora, non voglio dire che ho odiato "Who's That Girl", questo no, e ho assolutamente visto di peggio, ma non mi aspettavo avrei così tanto faticato a digerire il personaggio interpretato da Madonna. Intorno a lei, poi, il caos: c'è un puma tra i personaggi principali, una foresta amazzonica su un tetto di New York, arresti, armi, incidenti in macchina, un matrimonio da organizzare e un'innocente da salvare (già, proprio il peronsaggio di Madonna). Insomma, un calderone di elementi che ho trovato estremamente caotico e difficile da digerire, per un risultato finale quasi da mal di testa.

Vale o non vale: I fan di Madonna sicuramente avranno visto e rivisto questo film, che negli anni si è aggiudicato addirittura lo status di cult. Personalmente non ho gradito granché, quindi non mi sendo di caldeggiare una visione. La colonna sonora però, quella sì che è un cult!
Premi: Candidato al Golden Globe per Miglior canzone originale ("Who's That Girl") e al Grammy per Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television. 5 candidature ai Razzie Awards per peggior film, regia, sceneggiatura, canzone ("El Coco Loco (So, So Bad)") e una vittoria per la peggior attrice (Madonna).

In sintesi: ricordo che la prima volta che avevo lo avevo visto, questo film non mi era particolarmente piaciuto. Penso sia per questo mche mi ci sono voluti anni per decidermi a dargli una seconda occasione.
Ho trovato "Moonstruck" piuttosto divertente e, per quanto folle, una piacevole visione. Cher e Cage sono una strana coppia che funziona, lei magnetica quanto la luna del titolo, lui in versione selvaggia e sexy: per qualche motivo insieme funzionano.
La storia presenta una serie di equivoci familiari da gestire, tira più volte in ballo la sorte (e la luna, ovviamente), gioca con stereotipi italiani - o, sarebbe meglio dire, italo-americani - e in generale funziona nonostante questo peculiare mix di ingredienti.

Vale o non vale: Commedia romantica per i nostalgici degli anni '80, i fan di Cher (o "RuPaul's Drag Race", considerato quante volte viene citata la famosa scena di Cher che, dopo uno schiaffo a Cage che le ha appena professato il suo amore, gli risponde 'Snap out of it!') o i curiosi di scoprire un Nicholas Cage "selvatico" e piuttosto sexy, "Moonstruck" rappresenta un'ottima scelta per una serata all'insegna del disimpegno e un tocco nostalgico.

In sintesi: "Legally Blonde" è un film che per tanti anni non ho mai considerato e che, invece, si merita davvero tutto il successo che negli anni ha ottenuto (si parla adesso di un terzo capitolo). Reese Witherspoon è un'ottima protagonista e la storia di per sé è divertente e simpatica, dotata di uno humor spiccato e una buona dose di autocritica. Il risultato finale è ancora fresco e spigliato a distanza di oltre 20 anni dall'uscita nei cinema.

Intro: In un momento di incertezza cinematografica, ho cominciato la visione di una serie di film che avevo già visto in passato, spinto dalla certezza di dedicare il mio tempo a dei titoli che sapevo mi avrebbero lasciato soddisfatto.

In sintesi: non ricordo come mi sia tornato in mente questo film - forse mi è capitato di sentire "All By Myself" da qualche parte - sta di fatto che, capitato al momento giusto, l'ho subito voluto rivedere.
Simpatico, spensierato e con una meravigliosa Renée Zellweger nei panni dell'ormai famossissima Bridget Jones, il film ha retto perfettamente il passare del tempo e, nonostante gli oltre vent'anni dall'uscita nei cinema, funziona ancora alla perfezione.

E ogni tanto rivederlo ci sta.

In sintesi: era da un po' di tempo che non usciva una commedia romantica intesa nel più classico senso del termine e, lo ammetto, ritrovare questo genere mi ha fatto piacere.
Poi "Anyone But You" non ridefinisce certo i canoni di questo tipo di prodotto e, tutto sommato, il risultato finale non è certo eclatante, eppure non posso dire di non aver seguito questa storiella con piacere.
Piacevole quanto basta, fedele alle aspettative e con due bei protagonisti che si mettono sufficientemente in gioco, questo film è esattamente ciò che ci si aspetta, overo un prodotto di facile consumo che aiuta a spegnere il cervello per un'oretta e mezza di spensieratezza e sogno. Nulla di più e non c'è niente di male.

In sintesi: la romcom gay che ci meritiamo.
Spensierato, divertnete, sexy quanto basta e irriverente al punto giusto, questo "Red, White & Royal Blue" riporta la tradizionale storia d'amore con complicazioni annesse al centro del racconto, posizionandosi inoltre in una sorta di realtà alternativa che chiama in causa altri titoli tradizionalmente drammatici come "House of Cards" e "The Crown", per un risultato finale che si segue con piacere e fa (finalmente) dimenticare la debacle che è stata "Bros".
Non guasta, poi, che i due bei protagonisti Taylor Zakhar Perez e Nicholas Galitzine presentino un'evidente chimica e siano perfettamente in grado di portare sulle proprie spalle le sorti di questa pellicola - tratta dal romanzo di Casey McQuiston - contornati da un buon cast tra cui spiccano Stephen Fry e una Uma Thurman dal curioso accento (del sud, mi pare?).
Insomma, l'adattamento di "Red, White & Royal Blue" funziona e dimostra quanto sia più che mai possibile raccontare la storia d'amore tra due persone dello stesso sesso e farla risultare credibile (seppure in un contesto, qui, incredibile) e, soprattutto, tanto normale quanto qualunque altra storia d'amore. Poi, per carità, è una commedia romantica e, per sua natura, ripulisce, sanifica e idealizza il racconto delle vicende umane; ciononostante il risultato finale è un ulteriore punto a favore della normalizzazione e dello sdoganamento di valori che si oppongo a quella chiusura mentale che ultimamente sembra prendere, ahimè, sempre più piede.

Intro: Molto, molto interessato a vedere questo film specialmente al cinema.

In sintesi: non il successo di pubblico sperato, "Bros" è affondato, complice un momento storico in cui non solo c'è da abbattere barriera, sfatare pregiudizi, combattere gli stereotipi E lo streaming, ma anche i postumi di una pandemia globale che non accenna a mollare la presa sul cinema.
In questo panorama di difficoltà, il film scritto e interpretato da Billy Eichner - la prima romcom gay prodotta da una major, ovvero la Universal Pictures - non è riuscito a richiamare al cinema spettatori interessati e paganti, nonostante "Bros" sia effettivamente un prodotto riuscito nel suo genere.
Da omosessuale posso dire di aver gradito la rappresentazione sul grande schermo di una coppia in cui potermi rispecchiare, nonostante le dinemache estreme da commedia rendano la storia di Bobby (Eichner) e Aaron (Luke Macfarlane) alquanto sopra alle righe. Ci sono, però, bei momenti di normalizzazione di un amore che è, sì, dello stesso sesso, ma finalmente non è l'unico focus della storia. L'amore gay è come l'amore etero, lo sappiamo e ce ne siamo fatti quasi tutti una ragione. Per chi non ci arriva, chiaramente questo non è il film adatto. E probabilmente nemmeno il pianeta.
Detto questo, "Bros" ha anche qualche momento di connessione genuina con il pubblico, soprattutto attraverso il personaggio di Bobby, difficile e complicato, indurito da una solitudine che pare essere più una corazza che una vera e propria scelta di vita. Il suo monologo sulla spiaggia non passa inosservato.
Onestamente trovo un peccato che questa pellicola non abbia trovato un riscontro di pubblico, soprattutto quello della comunità LGBTQIA+, adeguato alla conquista ottenuta dalla sua uscita nelle sale. Il mancato ritorno economico (il film è costato 22 milioni di dollari solo per produrlo) temo metterà un freno all'entusiasmo arcobaleno degli studi di produzione che, magari, ci penseranno su due volte prima di affidare il ruolo di protagonisti di una storia d'amore ad aspirazioni mainstream a due persone dello stesso sesso. Il che, al di là dei giudizi personali su questo film in sé, è onestamente un vero peccato.

Ad accompagnarli, una miriade di esponenti più o meno di punta della comunità LGBTQIA+ americana, tra camei importanti (Debra Messing, Ben Stiller, Kenan Thompson, Amy Schumer, Seth Meyers, Kristin Chenoweth, Bowen Yang) e qualche volto noto della corte di RuPaul (Ts Madison, Symone).
Il film è carino e fa ridere, forse a volte un po' troppo spudorato, ma è chiaro che pur essendo una romcom, "Bros" non punta al pubblico di tutte le età, quanto a uno specifico tipo di pubblico tramite il quale aprire la pista per altri progetti futuri simili a questo.
La risposta non c'è stata nei termini sperati, il che genera un po' di tristezza. Resta il fatto che ogni conquista va celebrata e ricordata come un nuovo, piccolo successo.
