Intro: On Christmas day, after all the food I had for lunch, I decided to dedicate the rest of the day to doing nothing. So I napped for a while, then I decided to watch a movie. I ended up watching three. Here's the first one.

Thoughts: Nothing says Christmas like Harry Potter, so I went for it. Usually I would have went for my favourite "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", but this time aroun I decided to switch things up a bit a go for the one I like "the least" (I love them all, of course).
This is after I went to "The Making of Harry Potter" Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London last Summer and their temporary exibition focused around the making of this movie, which was extremely well done and sparkled a new found interest in this third Harry Potter chapter.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed re-watching "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", a great movie made by the amazing director Alfonso Cuarón. Very different from the previous first to chapters of the saga, this installment is darker in tones and themes, altough very safely family-friendly.
A great watch, always nice to go back to Hogwarts.

Worth a watch?: For me, Harry Potter (no matter which movie of the series) is always a great option. I try to avoid watching them constantly, but if I could I'd definitely re-watch them multiple times a year.
Awards: Nominated for 2 Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Visual Effects. 4 nominations at the BAFTAs (Best British Film, Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup & Hair, Best Production Design) and 1 Grammy nomination for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.

Intro: Il trailer ci aveva davvero molto incuriosito, per cui ci siamo fiondati al cinema appena uscito il film nelle sale.

In sintesi: ancora una volta, come sempre, M. Night Shyamalan porta al cinema una pellicola dalle premesse promettenti, ma uno svolgimento deludente.
"Knock at the Cabin", infatti, parte da un'idea intrigante: una famiglia (omogenitoriale) si reca in vacanza in uno chalet di montagna, dove tutto sembra inizialmente filare liscio. Poi, a sorpresa, quattro sconosciuti si presentano alla porta, richiedendo che uno dei componenti della famiglia venga sacrificato in nome della salvezza dell'umanità. Non importa chi sceglieranno tra i due papà o la piccola figlia adottiva, l'importante è che sia la famiglia a scegliere.
Se, fino a qui, il film riesce a mantenere le promesse del trailer, oltre questo punto la storia comincia a perdersi, al pari dell'interesse dello spettatore. 

I quattro sconosciuti dell'apocalisse sono personaggi poco incisivi di cui, di fatto, viene approfondito solamente il personaggio interpretato da Dave Bautista, relegando gli altri tre a una marginalità (e, francamente, "dimenticabilità") che danneggia il racconto e la suspense in generale. 

In aggiunta, la mancanza di una motivazione alla base della terribile richiesta di sacrificio, non fa che indebolire la trama e distrarre chi guarda. Sì, è in gioco il destino dell'umanità... ma perchè? Chi la minaccia? Per quale motivo e a che scopo?
La sensazione finale, considerate le varie "piaghe" che si abbatteranno sulla terra durante la durata del racconto, è che si tratti di una sorta di punizione divina e fa strano, onestamente (e vista la scelta della coppia gay), che sia proprio questa famiglia con due papà a) ad avere le sorti di ogni persona sul pianeta tra le mani e b) la causa di tutta la sofferenza conseguente alla scelta che, per forza di cose, sentono di non riuscire a fare. 

Mi rendo conto che il film sia tratto dal romanzo horror "The Cabin at the End of the World" di Paul G. Tremblay e che, quindi, le scelte narrative siano necessariamente legate al prodotto da cui deriva, sta di fatto che ho trovato questo mix di "famiglia gay + apocalisse + sacrificio umano + sorti dell'umanità + piaghe e disatri" un connubio strano che veicola - vuoi o non vuoi - uno strano messaggio.
Al contempo, il film stesso mi ha dato l'impressione che non sapesse bene quale messaggio volesse portare all'attenzione del suo pubblico: spacciato per un horror, ma di fatto più thriller psicologico con accenni religiosi e un pizzico di famiglia moderna LGBTQIA+, "Knock at the Cabin" funziona in termini estetici (bella fotografia) e di premesse, ma non riesce a trasformare l'intrigo iniziale in qualcosa di innovativo o anche solo elettrizante da guardare.

Vale o non vale: Francamente mi sento di dire che, rispetto ad altri titoli di Shyamalan, questo non è il più terribile. Rimane il fatto che le premesse iniziali sono disattese e la fregatura della promessa horror non mantenuta sicuramente infastidirà non pochi. L'ennesimo film del regista de "Il sento senso" che mi sento di riassumere come "tanto rumore per nulla".

Film 2083 - Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts

Intro: Il Capodanno è passato e siamo riusciti a festeggiarlo a dove mangiando come se non ci fosse un domani. Motivo per cui, l'1 gennaio 2022 lo abbiamo passato in casa, tutto il giorno sul divano a guardare una pellicola dietro l'altra. Come poi era giusto che fosse.

In sintesi: non che mi abbia per alcuna ragione arricchito di contenuti l'universo potteriano, però "Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts" di HBO Max era decisamente quello che ci voleva per un primo dell'anno all'insegna delle coccole emotive.
I dietro le quinte mostrati non sono particolarmente inediti in termini di quanto è raccontato o mostrato - tutte cose che bene o male si sapevano già - quanto più per il fatto che abbiamo la possibilità di ritrovare i vari protagonisti della saga e soddisfare la nostra curiosità di sapere che fine abbiano fatto gli attori (e lo stato della loro "conservazione", per certi versi).
In generale, comunque, è stato bello ritrovare tutti coloro che hanno contribuito a portare la magia di Harry Potter sul grande schermo - tranne la Rowling, lei come previsto, appare solamente in filmati d'archivo - e, personalmente, ho trovato che questo speciale sia stato il film giusto con cui iniziare l'anno nuovo all'insegna di emozioni familiari e bei ricordi.

Vale o non vale: Tra il cast reunion e il dietro le quinte, "Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts" è il titolo perfetto per tutti gli appassionati della saga del maghetto Potter a cui è evidente che il film sia indirizzato. Il resto del pubblico potrebbe anche apprezzare nel momento in cui abbia quantomeno gradito i film originali, altrimenti non ha alcun senso recuperare questo speciale.

Harry batte Voldemort (che ve lo dico a fare) e il mondo magico sopravvive alla sua più grande minaccia, catapultandosi in un futuro che la stessa Rowling ha da poco ripreso nel suo “Cursed Child” teatrale. Tutto è bene quel che finisce bene, insomma. Soprattutto se c’è spazio per un’infinità di altre storie!

Pensieri: Inevitabile che si finisse per continuare il percorso cominciato e, così, siamo passati direttamente al sesto episodio. Sempre bello e interessante, sempre ben fatto. La storia si incupisce e i misteri traboccano ed è palpabile la nuova tensione non solo a scuola, ma anche in tutto il racconto. Tra tutti i film è forse quello più di passaggio perché, nonostante il settimo tagli effettivamente “I doni della morte” a metà, in questo è ancora più evidente che i nodi stanno per venire al pettine, eppure per arrivare al dunque c’è ancora molta strada da fare. Ma è una bella strada.<

Così il primo, nuovo post risale a una vita fa. A dicembre, in viaggio, ci siamo concessi numerosi sfizi. Tra cui un Harry Potter dietro l'altro. Qui eravamo a metà!

Pensieri: Nostalgia canaglia. Nel momento in cui scrivo ho appena finito di vedere l’ottavo e conclusivo capitolo della saga dopo che, qualche giorno fa, ho cominciato a leggere “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” e mi è tornata voglia del maghetto e delle sue magiche avventure. Pensavo di essere oltre la necessità di rivedere nuovamente tutta la saga, eppure eccoci di nuovo qua. Il quinto capitolo l’ho visto un paio di mesi fa, ma va detto che non avendo molto tempo libero ora che lavoro – né una connessione degna di nota – sono rimasto particolarmente indietro con le recensioni. Vergognosamente indietro. Del resto il blog giace immutato da quando, all’inizio di quest’anno, ho salutato e messo in pausa il progetto. Da allora non ho certo smesso di vedere film e, in un certo senso, mi piace l’idea che la prima recensione dopo così tanto tempo riguardi il Sig. Potter. Del resto la saga la adoro, i libri pure e tutti e 8 i film sono magicamente piacevoli, ognuno con i suoi pregi e difetti che ho elencato ampiamente numerose altre volte. Ecco perché aggiungo solo che, ancora oggi, rivedere “Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix” è un gran bel piacere.
