Film 2107 - The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Intro: Non sono particolarmente fan di Nicolas Cgae, ma il trailer di questo film mi aveva particolarmente incuriosito. Così sono corso al cinema appena ho potuto.

In sintesi: carino, piacevole e assolutamente diverso da come me lo aspettavo (come non mi aspettavo di trovarci la Mastronardi, a dire il vero...).
Geniale nel senso che coinvolge un attore un tempo di serie A di Hollywood e ne mette intelligentemente alla berlina aspetti di una carriera adesso certamente in declino (da anni) con, al tempo stesso, la complicità dello stesso attore.
Nicolas Cage qui è una forza della natura - finalmente coinvolto in un progetto che ne mette in risalto il talento e loda una filmografia di fatto di tutto rispetto -, felice di mettersi in gioco ed evidentemente in perfetta sintonia con il compagno di avventure Pedro Pascal, che ritroviamo in una chiave comica per lui inedita. Il duo è onestamente perfetto e vale da solo il prezzo del biglietto.
Per il resto "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" è un'ottima commedia a tinte action che intrattiene piacevolmente, diverte e fa anche ridere di quando in quando. Sicuramente uno dei film più interessanti usciti fino ad ora quest'anno.

Vale o non vale: Duo di protagonisti affiatato, cast delle grandi occasioni e risultato finale divertente e spensierato, "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" è certamente una delle sorprese di questo 2022 fino ad ora non particolarmente indimenticabile. Nick Cage in gran spolvero. Da vedere.

Film 1522 - The French Lieutenant's Woman

Intro: I always wanted to see this movie and it was about time I saved some time to just do it.

Briefly: "The French Lieutenant's Woman" was not what I expected it to be. I got myself mislead by a title which refers to France & army, but in the end that's not what the movie is about. Two love stories, two different settings for a plot that is divided between the struggling relationship involving the gentleman palaeontologist Charles Smithson and the enigmatic Sarah Woodruff and the actors who play them in a modern filming of the story. Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons are romantically involved in both stories in a parallelism that drives you exactly where you expect it to lead you, except that everything just turns and what would have been impossible in the Victorian period drama story happens and what you thought to be inevitable in the real life story fades away. Sometimes a plot can still surprise you;
I find the Victorian period settings quite intriguing, with a special note on costumes (by Tom Rand) and hairstyling (for Streep bold and explosive hair). The comparison between the two plot timelines' style are obvious and well handled not in an ordinary way;
Streep and Irons are great actors and perfect for their double roles here: I was really fascinated by Streep performances, she can really be whomever she wants;
I find this art imitating art subplot really fascinating. A movie that depicts the making of a movie means to witness the process of that medium analyzing itself through its own tools, which is always compelling and worth studying.

Worth watching?: Not always perfect, but well acted and narratively intriguing. The parallelism between the two stories is the core of the plot which will surprise you in the end. Worth watching, a real Meryl Streep's fans cult.
Awards: Nominated for 5 Academy Awards (including Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium); 3 Golden Globes nomination and 1 win (Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama); 11 BAFTAs nomination and 3 wins (Best Actress, Best Sound and Best Score).

Sorry, temporarily closed

HollywoodCiak is taking some time off.
Since we arrived in Australia we really had a lot of great experiences and now it’s time to get even more extreme: to get lost in the middle of nowhere.
In the next months we’ll be too far away from society and no wifi connection will be available, so saying goodbye for a while is probably for the best.
It’s not actually a real goodbye, but we just wanted to let you know that, even thought we’ll continue doing our favourite thing in the world – watching movies, of course – we wouldn’t be able to write and post a lot for some time. We will post, but we can’t say when…
So, thank you for all your support and enjoy 2018!

HollywoodCiak si prende una pausa.
Da quando ci siamo trasferiti in Australia sono state tantissime le esperienze magnifiche che abbiamo fatto ed è giunto il momento di passare a un livello più estremo: perdersi nel bel mezzo del nulla.
Nei prossimi mesi saremo troppo lontani dalla civiltà e non avremo accesso al wifi, quindi dirsi arrivederci è, per il momento, la cosa più giusta da fare.
Non è un addio, volevamo solo rendervi partecipi del fatto che, anche se continueremo a fare ciò che preferiamo in assoluto – vedere film, ovviamente – non saremo in grado di scrivere e postare granché per un po’ di tempo. Posteremo, ma non possiamo dire quando…
Quindi grazie per il tutto il supporto e passate un buon inizio 2018!
Torneremo prima di quanto non pensiate.

1 film al giorno... Julie & Julia

Ieri sera ho finalmente visto il film "Julie & Julia" di Nora Ephron. Aspettavo da un po', curioso di capire dove sarebbero andati a parare con la storia delle 500 e passa ricette da realizzare entro l'anno di tempo.

Il film alla fine l'ho trovato gustoso, facile da digerire e sicuramente appetibile per molti, anzi moltissimi. Io personalmente non avevo proprio idea di chi fosse Julia Child - in cucina sono una frana - e dal film traspare una personalità eccentrica, colorata, rassicurante. Mi ha fatto venir voglia di approfondire su Wikipedia già a metà del primo tempo! E alla fine mi ha lasciato un dolce sapore in bocca, sensazione che il patinato cinema hollywoodiano riesce ad assicurarmi la maggior parte delle volte. Ma, oltre a questo, mi ha lasciato con un prurito, una voglia che fermentava. Un blog, 524 ricette, 365 giorni... Un percorso affascinante! Da provare?

Ma quale poteva essere il mio percorso? Quale obiettivo potevo darmi senza obbligarmi a qualcosa? C'è voluta una notte per capirlo, per ricordarmi che passo molto del mio tempo a guardare film e che mi piace moltissimo farlo. Quale idea migliore, quindi?

Dunque comincio da qui, dal primo film della mia lista:

Film 1: "Julie & Julia" (2009) di Nora Ephron

Pensieri: Il film mi è piaciuto. Ho trovato originale l'idea dell'accostamento temporale che sottolinea chiaramente le differenze di due periodi storici neanche troppo distanti. Credo che il film renda giustizia alla Child, soprattutto grazie a Meryl Streep. I 123 minuti di film sono trascorsi piacevolmente, nonostante l'ora tarda - 1:30 di notte- non ho sbadigliato nemmeno una volta e non ho mai perso il filo della storia anche se ho fatto varie pause (maledetto streaming!).

Consigli: Si mangia sempre in questo film e si parla sempre di cibo o come prepararlo. Meglio non essere a stomaco vuoto. E in compagnia per commentare!
